This is the correct price for these. So there is no discount, 179 is overpriced. Seems like discounted because it's overpriced

You can look at the Amazon price history from the product page. Maybe they are consistently $129 somewhere else but price history shows they are typically the $179 and only hit $129 one in the past 90 days for a short while.

I bought these for 109 during Christmas. 129 is normal "sale" price, and it seems they go on sale quite often. Not always Amazon, you just need to look around.

I guess I don't get the novelty of these. I want earbuds that sound good instead of ones that look cool or as a fashion statement.

If I'm reading it correctly, 25 hours of playtime on the earbuds is crazy.

With these earbuds, it's 25 hrs of playtime total with the included charging case not on a single use. No earbuds on the market in this same style has those capabilities.
Each use probably allows 4-6 hours depending on how you use it
