The Legion Tab Gen 3 is a compact 8.8 inch Android gaming tablet that stands out for snappy performance, a very good display, strong battery life, and easy portability. It is especially appealing for gaming and emulation, with Fortnite running smoothly and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 still seen as capable for Windows and mobile gaming. The main drawback is the missing microSD card slot, which matters for emulation and storage. Software support and update longevity are also a concern for some, though Lenovo's track record offers some reassurance.

Common Questions (5)

  • No. This model does not include a microSD card slot, which is a key tradeoff versus Samsung tablets and the imported Gen 4. That matters most if you store emulation files, media, or offline games on expandable storage.

  • Yes. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 165Hz display, and lightweight 8.8-inch size make it a strong gaming tablet, and it can run Fortnite smoothly. It is also described as a stable choice for emulation, especially if you want a compact Android device.

  • The Legion Tab Gen 3 is the better pick for gaming and compact size, while the Galaxy Tab S9 offers an OLED screen, microSD expansion, and Samsung features like Good Lock. For reading, streaming, and PS Remote Play, the S9 is often favored if those extras matter more than gaming performance.

  • Yes. The thread mentions pricing around $360.99 after Lenovo coupons, $371.99 with an ID.me discount, and additional cashback offers such as Capital One Savor or Venture on Lenovo.com. Some buyers also used AliExpress coupons plus Rakuten cashback to get similar pricing on the Gen 4.

  • It is currently on Android 16, and Android 17 is expected to be the last major OS update. Security support is believed to run for about four years, so it should still have some patch coverage after the final Android version.

the snapdragon 8 gen 1 is alot better for windows games, this is just 1 generation too old
8 gen 1 CPU is horrible efficiency and thermals. Like EOL for updates overall already.

The 8Gen 3 CPU is very old at this point. You're talking about going to an even older CPU/GPU architecture to use Windows emulator, just to play games on a weak iGPU. It's not worthwhile.

8 Gen (4) Elite, 8 Gen 5 Elite (2025), and 8 Gen 6 Elite (2026). 8 Gen 1 simply can't provide good performance/cost ratio. It's even well behind 8 Gen 2, which is already slow compared to what's available today for mobile gaming.

Wow, thanks for letting me know. I'll stick with just the regular Lenovo website then so there's no surprises.
Yeah it's very important to be mindful of warranty and RMA when getting international variants. You'd likely need to ship back to Asia for service or replacement, which sounds like an expensive nightmare.

You have to ensure that imported Android devices are shipping with firmware that support English, and Google Play Services (needed for Play store).

Anyone who is in the game getting these from AliExpress before tariffs knows that this isn't a good deal
Before tariffs you could get the Gen 4 variant for a good price. That one has SD card. Now it's not worth the headache to import electronics imo unless the discount offsets tariff fee. Lenovo just wants to offload the remainder of their stock imo.

I love this series but this is the year they got rid of the SD card which would be a bummer. but the alternative is importing it from giz top and get the Gen 4 for about $100 more. but you get almost no aftercare support. although it's not that big of a deal importing a tablet since it's Wi-Fi only.

How many more security updates is this thing getting? I can't imagine it has more than 2 years left
I believe it was promised 4 years of security patches. but honestly I would have no problem using this for a few years past its last security patch. I still use my Galaxy tab S7 and my v60 all the time the performance is not a problem at all.

This device is already 3 years old.Lenovo is trying to trick consumers into this being a deal.Gen 4 never made it to the U.S.Gen 5 is supposedly U.S. bound in June. This is not a deal, this is a low key attempt to offload old hardware and try to confuse customers into thinking they are getting a bargain.
it's still a better deal than the same tablet you would get from Samsung for 380 bucks which would basically you'd have to go all the way back to get a used Galaxy tab S8.

8g3 it's not old are you crazy. it's like 2 years old and it's a flagship. someone got Red Dead redemption 2 through game hub on the OnePlus 13 which uses that chip. and it had over 45 FPS. The idea that that is too weak of a chip at this point is silly

8g1 it's absolutely a thermal nightmare but the 8 Gen 3 is not old that's so ridiculous. it's a TSMC fabricated chip from just a couple years ago. lol. like what on earth are you getting us it has to be a newer chip than that? You're paying for the benefit here You're only paying $380 bucks.

granted you can pay $100 more an import the 4th generation from giz top. but a lot of people aren't comfortable importing something and again that's $100 more.

less of big of a deal on tablets that are Wi-Fi only. with smartphones you have to worry about getting the right band support and not getting blacklisted by AT&t or something.

I suppose there is the risk if there's a manufacturing defect in the first 12 months that you lose some meaningful coverage but that's pretty rare. generally a manufacturing defect is not going to not likely impact your experience between them first month and the 12th month.

and there are benefits to importing for instance you get the Gen 4 version with an SD card. slightly newer model.

it just really depends. you can get some better value too like the OnePlus 15 was cheaper to import the global version than it was to actually buy it in the US by quite a few hundred dollars.

I check to see if you could get the third gen on Amazon new or used and it's not available in the US. I think that's one reason why this is attractive to me is that this is not a tablet that was made in abundance so it's not all over the resale market.

and when they are on the resale market they don't really even have a serious markdown. if you go on eBay and look for it Gen 3 Lenovo legion tab used it would probably not be much more cheaper than this.

I think the bigger question is whether or not you be better off going to giz top or something and importing the Gen 4.

I bought this a few months back. Not even a week in I had to send it in for a warranty repair for both USB charging ports being so loose the charging kept disconnecting and reconnecting. I feel like they should have just replaced the unit, but they refused. Good news is they got it "fixed" and returned back to me fairly quickly, which I was thankful for since the issue was not fixed. Since I was still within the return period, I decided to return for a refund.

Pretty disappointing, because despite that issue, was a really nice tablet. I really liked the form factor too. Wish Samsung would would make a high-end smaller screen tablet. What they have are just oversized and too heavy for my use case.

I wanted one of these so bad back in the day, but they were only in China, so I bought a Samsung Tab S10+... Still consider switching back time to time

Got this tablet a few days ago and love it. It plays Fortnite without any issues and the display is really good
