For $8 plus I'll give it a shot. My pellet grill doesn't provide enough smoke flavor for my liking.

Foil packet with holes poked in it will probably do just as well. Problem with these boxes is they have to get close to the heat, like on the flavorizer bars to work. I've opt'd to just throw larger chunks of wood straight on the direct heat grates and had good results.

I have this. It is poor with pellets. Works with wood chips but needs to be soaked prior. I find this box works best with one edge over burner if gas. If coals about medium heat. Low doesn't smoke enough. Least for apple and pecan wood. Two I use the most.

Other than that is is pretty small and sturdy. I use it for smokes under 4 hours. I have a pellet tube for longer sessions.

I have something similar to these. They work well for smoking on my Weber kettle. I usually smoke around 250 degF, so nothing too hot. I bought a set of 2 on ebay for about $15.

My only complaint is that I'd rather have one that doesn't have a hinged lid. I would prefer one where you can remove the lid entirely. Can be a bit tough to open the hinge at times and sometimes debries or small chunks of wood will get stuck between the main body and the lid and the lid won't open until you clear it out.

Don't soak your chips. I have one of these and set it directly across two burner shields. It works a treat.

99% of my cooking is on a propane weber, I have one of those pellet tubes but haven't used it in a while. It took time to get it going. Would I be better off with this, or is grilling a steak not going to matter if I have this?
