isthereanydeal.com is the best for tracking PC prices, I always sort by historical low and check every few days. You can set alerts on specific games too. Pay attention to platforms. For instance I prefer to have a ll my games on steam.

May help some though I'm not going down the road of 'renting' or paying subscriptions to play my games.

It's very helpful to use game price/history sites to sort the deals during sales. I like to sort games $5 and under as well as setting a high percentage off. I also like to look through the games that are historical lows.
