This restored Midea Duo portable air conditioner is praised for strong cooling from its dual hose design and for arriving looking and smelling new when the unit is in good shape. It has handled garages, studios, and hot rooms well, and Midea support has replaced missing parts for free in some cases. The main drawback is inconsistent refurb condition, with reports of missing accessories, cracked plastic, odors, and occasional error codes or humidity issues. Returns and replacement parts can also be a hassle, so it is best suited to shoppers willing to check the box carefully and deal with support if needed.

  • Restored units can arrive missing accessories, including sliding window adapter pieces.

  • Return handling can become difficult because Walmart may require specific packaging or refuse marketplace returns.

  • Midea reportedly may not cover missing pieces under warranty for restored units.

  • Some units reportedly develop P2 errors from a broken slinger fan within the first day of running.

  • The window-attachment plastic parts can feel flimsy and may require screws or latches for stability.

When I took mine in to a Walmart, they said they cannot accept it (even with the box) because 1) they do not accept market place items 2) fed ex does not come to pick up items. The manager had to call fed ex. I took it to a regular FedEx and they said because it has the hazard sign on the box- they cannot accept it. Worst return experience ever.
Walmart can be hit or miss with returns in store. It is because if they accept it then it counts as a loss of revenue for the store. Luckily I was able to return mine but I've had big issues returning things to walmart. Even brand new in box. The worse is when they ship you the wrong item and you have to return in store. They will say the item doesn't match.....no shit?

I thought units like these were not fixable once they stop working
Depends on what in it stops working. Or if it even had a problem in the first place. Definite possibility of just an open box/return that worked fine.

I was one of those people. No one will replace it. To return the unit, you either have to drop it off at a fedex shipping center (not a standard store) or have FedEx schedule a pickup 2-3 business days in advance.
now on my second box not having the sliding window adapter included. this is quickly becoming more trouble than it's worth.

I just returned one of these, I loved all the features, but I'm not sure it's "inverter" feature handles humidity well. We had water accumulate inside of the unit itself and not in it's water storage area... I'll probs be in to try again, this is $400 less than what we paid!

Want to share my experience for folks hesitating because it is refurbished unit. I bought it like a month ago with similar price. It came with some damage. Broken wheel, missing accessories, cracked plastic pieces for hose attachment . Luckily, it can still blow cold air.

So I directly called Midea customer service (just googled for phone number) and asked for part replacement. I looked the part numbers up in midea.encompass.com and gave them a list of things I need. They were able to accommodate my needs and sent me all the stuffs for free. Now I'm happily enjoying cold breeze.

So if you don't mind the hassle of (maybe) calling customer service, it is a great AC for its price.

Note: read the manual to check what accessories should be included. If they say refurbished item is not covered, tell them there is 90 days limit warranty written in manual. Send the email to complaint if necessary.

If you are referring to returning it to Walmart then I had to do an in store return last time. They would not do a FedEx shipping label. What online.com says is the final decision for methods of return. Or are you referring to returning to midea? I didn't have any missing accessories. I just changed my mind on my second unit. Make sure your unit can run and remove the condensate property. My unit and many others have a broken slinger fan and you will have constant p2 errors. You will know within the first day of running it if it happens. Worse on super hot and humid days. it is on the heater/cooling unit. I have one of these refurbs from Walmart and it is working great.
That's so weird because that's not what I experienced. I contacted Walmart.com to see if they could send the missing part and when they couldn't - they said they would start the refund process. The email said to return to any Walmart location. When I got to a Walmart, showed them the email, and barcode- they told me that they don't do returns from marketplace. Even if I had a barcode. The lady said "online always says to return in store but we can't." That's when the manager got involved and they called fed ex. Walmart was trying to have me pay for the shipping label at first and that pissed me off even more. Eventually they sent me a return label that I then had to use at a fed shipping center. Scheduling a pickup at my home was not an option because I would have been at work the days they were available and I can't leave the unit in my car or apartment complex. So it was a nightmare of a situation. Truthfully, had I known that this was going to be a pain the butt, I would have just spend the extra $$$ and buy the piece I needed.

It is at the stores discretion and they like to make up their own rules. It isn't hard coded in their system to not take the return. They are just being an ass about it. With that being said I wouldn't hesitate to buy this unit as long as you get a good one. It works well as an AC unit albeit there is some humidity issues depending on climate.

Buying this just so I have a back up in case my home AC ever goes down. I believe this is the "runner up" option on Wirecutter for portable AC units.

I took mine back to a walmart store. the person at the return counter tried to tell me they wouldn't accept it without a box. I asked for a manager. the manager said the same. I said I don't see that in the terms and conditions on the web site, that things need to be returned in their original box. the manager then moved on to "well we can't issue you a refund until we get a box and ship it." I accepted that and got a receipt. the refund showed up as a pending charge the next day on my credit card.
Huh you accepted and got a receipt. What's that mean. They said no you said

I got one of these units (new) from Costco last year. Lasted exactly 3 months with moderate use during a very mild summer, and ended up with the EH03 error code randomly one day. Good thing for Costco's amazing return process.

Comparatively, I also have the Whynter 'twin' version [ARC-1230WN] that has been working flawless for the past 3 years.

Got mine today, must have been in stock close by as it was next day delivery. Damage free and smells new. Came with regular hung window accessories, but the sliding window pieces and cord wrap piece were not included. This Midea unit seems to be exactly the same as my Toshiba dual hose unit (control panel, plastic body design, hose design, etc) I got a year ago and that has been flawless. I wish the hose was longer, or there was an extension for it. I use this one in the basement, and my windows are high up, so I had to lift it up onto a sturdy chair and the hose barely reaches. I connected a hose to the drain since I have a floor drain. The manual it came with is a large folded up paper with very fine print... made me whip out my readers. This unit is discontinued and the page for it on Midea's site unhelpfully only has the energy guide and smart app manuals. The MPT1412HVRU I believe is the replacement, it's manual is similar enough to answer most questions if you need.

Hope it doesn't poop the bed in 3 months, suppose to be a bad summer this year so will be a good test. This is replacing my 14k BTU Whynter dual hose I've had for 4 years, and last summer it was struggling. This Midea is 2K BTU less than that, so we'll see.

I received mine today. The box wasn't taped or strapped together so the bottom of the box fell off and a few things fell with it. The air filter was snapped in half. Clips busted. Bent plastic. I contacted the seller. This is the second one I purchased. The first one was in perfect like new condition although I purchased it from ebay

I have this one and also the Midea U window mount (both the 12k variants). I know there are obvious constraints between the two with a portable vs. fixed one and it's not always an option, but for whatever it's worth, the fixed U-shaped window unit does work much better at cooling. I tested them both in the same room. The U-shaped fixed unit would get the room 10 degrees cooler than the portable unit in summer heat. My anecdotal 2 cents.

I also bought this refurbished a while back. Mine was essentially new. It works great, I have it in my garage which is mostly insulated and below living space, and two hot cars in the summer made it consistently 90 degrees in there first thing in the morning, just no good way to dump the heat. This solves the problem, I have it automatically start around bedtime set to about 77-78 and it makes the living space above noticeably more comfortable.
Where do u set up the vent hoses then if in your garage? Unless u have a window? Thanx
