This Falcon 5W diode laser looks like a solid starter engraver for wood, opaque plastics, painted metal, and other flat materials. The community notes it can remove paint from metal tags, mark stainless steel by discoloring or coating removal, and handle simple projects like labels and small signs. Setup often needs extras such as eye protection, ventilation, a honeycomb bed, and air assist, and LightBurn is repeatedly favored over the included software. The main limit is power, since 5W is too weak for true metal engraving or cutting and curved surfaces are harder. A practical pick if you want to learn laser engraving without jumping to a higher power machine.

I watched that section (I have a 3d printer) and wow, the laser does a great job on it. The problem is that he mentions it's a fiber laser. Muuuch more expensive.

Lasers are about the only thing Creality makes that aren't complete garbage. I will never buy another 3D printer from them after this whole K2 Plus CFS garbage they sold. Such a POS.
Wow, that bad? Most CFS/AMS units are far from perfect. I have to clear out issues in my Bambu AMS2 every few days of printing.

I was able to stack CFNY10 and WELCOME5 and got the 10w version for $170 before tax.
How were you able to stack these? When I try, I can only use 1.

Same here - I'd consider the 10w, but can't get those to stack like the other poster mentioned. Anyone have any luck or tricks to use to get these to work together?

I got this one a year and a half ago, and it's awesome!

https://slickdeals.net/f/17861583-swiitol-c18-pro-18w-laser-engraver-shipped-59-99

There is a bit of a learning curve, but it will engrave and cut wood, stone, porcelain tile, etc. I haven't really tried metal as someone mentioned, not really the right tool for the job.

That being said, it's an 18 watt engraver and it's a bit slow at times. I can't imagine how slow a 5 watt one would be. I would think if you're just looking to engrave some text or images on wood or cork you'd be fine, but probably not enough juice to cut wood very well. It might, but it will be SLOOOOOW.

Also yes, you're going to want to build a box to vent the fumes - I tried without and it smoked out my whole workshop. So I built a box out of plywood and used a vent fan to the outside.

Also Lightburn is not cheap, it's about $100 I think after the free trial expires. There are other softwares out there, but they're nowhere near as good as Lightburn. I ended up just paying for it, it's worth it.

Was thinking of the 10w but going to wait. Seems from reading the posts this is not a simple purchase. Someone talked about having to buy a software package after an initial trail. Plus want to see some videos of actual use.

Really would like to know how it would work to engage on chrome metal tools, like wrenches. I do realize it's quite underpowered but if it's able to engrave a letter per minute, I'd be satisfied
