they NEVER had all metal gears 30 years ago either. they all have a sacrificial gear in them to prevent you from killing the machine. the gear is a 30 dollar part, the older ones had a micarta gear and the new ones have a high tech plastic composite gear in them for the same purpose. I can show you the parts if you like. I fix these machines daily for a side job.

The mixer from costco includes the below attachments/accessories

flex edge beater
coated flat beater
coated dough hook
6-wire whip
pouring shield

Whereas the ebay unit don't include any attachments.

Costco price ($320) looks more attractive considering this.

Good suggestion, Unfortunately years too late. Metal gear models are impossible to find anywhere now, and the companies that rebuild them charge more than you can buy this model - except new models come with good warranty, especially Costco. I have been looking for a year on reddit, Craigslist, ebay, Facebook marketplace in the whole North America - no luck.

Tilt ones fit under standard height cabinets. These don't, they're way taller so need special hiding places

One of the best deals I've ever had was a $99 refurbished KitchenAid stand mixer like this -- some 20 years ago or so. Still going strong now.
