Sony's refurbished WF 1000XM6 earbuds are drawing praise for near new condition and strong sound, with several reports that the units arrive cleaned, reset, and hard to distinguish from new. The biggest draw is improved noise cancelling and a more secure fit than the XM5, along with battery charge limit support and sound that needs little or no EQ. The main tradeoffs are the larger earbud and case size, a short 90 day warranty, and no Sony manufacturer coverage on refurbished units. Replacement tips may be needed for fit or comfort, making this a solid value if the warranty limits do not matter.
The refurbished XM6 units can arrive looking brand new with no obvious refurbishment signs.
The refurbishment process can include cleaning and pad replacement, which may make many units pass as new.
Secondipity eBay listings can include a 2-year Allstate or SquareTrade warranty option for added coverage.
A factory reset can be required to stop a previous owner from tracking the earbuds.
The XM6 can provide a more stable fit than XM4 and XM5 during walking sessions.
The Sony app ear tip test can pass after switching to soft silicone tips for better seal and stability.
Sony can refuse warranty or defect replacements for units flagged as recycled or refurbished in its database.
Foam tips can be a costly consumable, and silicone tips can shift the sound signature toward mids and highs.
The return policy can restrict open items from being returned and can require the item remain unused and in original condition.
The earbuds and charging case can be larger than the XM5, which may affect comfort and portability.

And in my experience they will also reject this even if they are doing some type of broad factory defect replacement scheme.

For other folks: Secondipity is a Sony refurb partner, and their refurbishment is usually excellent. I've purchased 3 pairs of earbuds through them. 2 were in such flawless condition that they showed zero signs of usage. In one case, one set of eartips was used (I guess they missed that during inspection. Ew), so they refunded me $40 to purchase new eartips.
When Secondipity lists products on eBay, you can usually get them with a 2-year warranty through Allstate / SquareTrade. I had to do a claim on my XM4s when one of the buds stopped holding a charge. They didn't have that model anymore, so they refunded the purchase price and I put it toward the XM5s (same deal, refurb with a 2-year warranty). Total payment between both sets was something like $150, and for that I got 4 years (so far) on Sony's most recent flagship earbuds which typically retail for $300+.

Wonder if with it being bigger the mic for the ANC will pick up ambient noise better so that the software can cancel it. I believe that's the issue I'm having with the XM4
