The caveat is that it's only higher output with tools that can utilize it (HP or brushless).

This sander won't benefit from the higher output.

In fact, the HP battery might be worse for low grit sanding, as it's a lighter pack that won't apply as much pressure.

I wouldn't really say that this is an issue. As pressure should ultimately be fine determined by the user.

You really don't want to be applying a large amount of pressure to sand correctly. But yes, people often make the mistake of applying too much pressure.

Clearly you've never had to strip oak.

If you apply zero pressure on a lightweight sander, it will just walk. So what does that tell you?

Maybe stop with the generalizations and realize that, yes, sometimes elbow grease is needed when sanding.

The high performance batteries have higher amp ratings. They are less likely to bog down when used with saws, sanders, routers etc when they need additional power. I've got this tool and like it.

The $148 mrsp is a bit inflated. This is a good value for someone who needs a spare battery and will have a use for the sander. I already have sanders and spare batteries so I will pass on this. The 2amp batteries work fine for light duty use but don't cut it for extended run time or high power draw tools. I have been slowly upgrading to 4 and 6 amp batteries. I had a 2amp die on me and customer service was useless. They claimed it was outside of warranty by the manufacture date and wouldn't accept my receipt.
HP batteries are rated for higher amp draw. Lower internal resistance means the battery stays cooler and maintains voltage better under load. For all tools not just HP rated. Light duty tools might not see much improvement but HP tools have the extra electrical pin to see a greater performance increase.
In summery: Decent deal but don't go out of your way for it.

Yes, the clamp for the sandpaper is horrendous. Do not recommend.
