This Sonicare Professional Clean 2 pack is a Costco in store markdown on rechargeable toothbrush handles, with some locations also carrying the Advanced version and other Sonicare models nearby. The appeal is the familiar Sonicare cleaning feel and, in some cases, strong battery life that still lasts for years. The main concerns are durability, with reports of buttons failing, charging problems, rust at the shaft, and water getting into the body after a couple of years. A few units were hard to find, so availability looks spotty and the value depends on getting one without the known wear issues.

Common Questions (4)

  • Several reports describe failures after about 2 years: the metal shaft can rust, the rubber water guard can tear and let water into the body, and one unit's power button fell off on first use. Other units have lasted 8-10 years, so keeping the head/neck area clean may help, but the failure points are real.

  • Yes. A DiamondClean Smart Handle 2-pack was reported at $49.97, and another Costco location had the Professional Care version plus an Advanced version at the same price. Availability can be very limited, with some stores showing only a few units or none at all.

  • Yes, a failed Sonicare handle has reportedly been returned under Costco's customer satisfaction policy, and an employee said Costco gets reimbursed by the vendor. That said, one commenter was unsure about returns on very old electronics, so the practical answer is to contact Costco with your receipt and ask.

  • Some buyers say it feels weaker than older versions, with less vibrating motion, while others say the new handles are as strong as their 8-year-old Sonicare Pros. The package also appears to include a USB charging cord but no charging block, and the case is just a case rather than a charging case.

If this design is the same as a previous Phillips sonicare brush I had, it has a metal slot that fits into the toothbrush head. Unfortunately, water gets up in there, rusts it out, and then you eventually end up with a useless brush regardless of whether the battery is still good.
Yep. Mine wouldn't take a charge that would last more than 30 seconds after 2 years. Previous Sonicare (cheaper model) lasted 4 years. Very disappointing. After buying 3 generations of Sonicare, I bought Oral-B to replace it.

Had one for a couple of years. The rubber water guard where the head meets the neck eventually broke down and tore away and let water down into the body.

If I could read the T&C Costco had with the vendor and if your return stuck it on Phillips, I'd be fine with that. But, my guess is Costco would eat the return.

It's a bad design as I detailed above.
I actually called the other day about mine that failed after a couple/few years. Employee said that it can be returned under customer satisfaction and Costco gets reimbursed by the vendor.

Yeah, I'm sort of done with Sonicare. They keep getting worse and worse (smaller handle, shorter cycles, shorter life, etc.). There is a deal here on SD for a no-name for $8 with a bunch of heads included that I'm going to try out. If you think about it, It's a pretty simple instrument. I don't even need timed cycles.

I bought one when they first came out. I think it's been a decade now. It won't die. It's built like surgical equipment. I guess they decided to build in defects in the later models.

I can appreciate that since Costco still has a vendor contract with Phillips. But, what about the one and done items Costco carries from a year or two ago where Costco didn't see enough sales or the vendor can't meet the margins Costco wants and stuff gets closed out.

I don't care what people do, but I have one of the older style, screw on tops that is still running strong.

Not sure. There is a subreddit for Costco employees, I'm guessing they would have the answer to that question.

My wife just tried this. It's not as strong, less vibrating motion, than the years old version where one unit was like $80. Also, case is just a case, not a charging case. Finally, USB charging cord, no block of course.

I don't think Costco accepts years old returns anymore, especially electronics.

You sure she got this one? Mine came corded with standard two prong plugs.
