If you have the space for it, I use a 5lbs co2 tank with an adapter to the soda machine. Last much longer and cost about 20 bucks to refill at your local hydroponics shop. The up front cost is a bit more but it paid for itself for the amount of cylinders we went through

CO2 canisters alone retail at $30+/ea, seems like a good value.

My same though, the co2 and the flavors cover the cost of the machine

Everyone who uses a sodastream should be aware of Simpli Soda. Once you have cartridges they are only $30.38 for two full CO2 cartridges delivered Fed Ex. Then you just exchange 2 empties for 2 full.

Does this have the new bottles with syrup marking? Since they took the measuring lids away from the syrup itself

Probably why it is on discount.

I bought the Art about a month ago and absolutely loved it. Much nicer overall design and quality over the Terra, and for 2 tanks + 4 bottles of soda, it's a great deal. The handle is actually a cool little touch, and it works very nice. I would recommend the 0.5l bottles (twin pack) as it goes on sale often and they're much easier to store in a fridge or elsewhere to chill the water before making a drink

The math ain't mathing - $24.99+tax for a 4 pack of diet cola + CO2 costs for 17 two-liter bottles worth of finished product - the taste is affected by the water quality used. Compare/contrast to Walmart for their diet cola [taste better too from my perspective] at $1.00+tax per 2 liter bottle of their diet cola = 50% more cost for the same amount drink, plus cleanup, and maintenance, etc. associated with this gadget.

No thanks. Pass.

Not even including the upfront cost of the machine itself amortized over the cost of each bottle. I've done the math before, and it's usually a wash or slightly cheaper to just buy the name brand soda on sale.

I have never tried these SodaStream. How often do you replace the CO2 canisters average? What if I don't use it regularly does it deplete when not in use?

I really don't think this is a good value... Especially these days. Soda stream has modified their designs to try to make using a co2 adapter for larger non-oem tanks difficult. Also, I don't think the syrups really make it taste like proper soda. I just like plain carbonated water, so it has been a good deal for me... Especially since I have an adapter and big external tank.

You're likely to find an old soda stream on Facebook like a fizzi or similar for $30 or less. Just FYI.

There's also drinkmate which is a competitor that lets you carbonate anything - even juice. (You can only really carbonate water with soda stream)

Sodastream isn't about saving money, it's about having the freedom to choose what flavor and the amount of fizz and it's about helping the environment by not reusing the bottles as opposed to buying soda/seltzer plastic bottles over and over. So yes, it's cheaper to buy generic soda and yes you can buy cheaper seltzer on sale, but that's not why Soda Stream exists.

Interesting.. I called the store near me, and they said it's 20lbs... But cheap refill, at $45. The thing is the tank itself is $250!
