Why do they (Chinese imports) all have such bad photoshopping? Like it is a thing that must be done.
Because its a big waste of money to hire real talent and real people to model to sell products... People will see the machine and either want to buy it or not the rest add minuscule value. China is still one of the few countries left selling affordable products and its not junk as many people try to lie and say.

Can't imagine this is good for your back?
Are you being serious or is this a sarcastic comment??? Besides swimming, rowing is thee best back workout to strengthen back muscles when done with proper form. There is no other exercise machine that hits all the back muscles as well offers almost full body with one workout.

Agreed 100%. Concept 2 is the standard against which all rowers are judged. I began using Concept 2 (Model B) in the early 90's. I bought a used Model C years later, and used that for probably 15 years or so, and then sold it when I switched to other forms of cardio. A few years ago, I missed it and picked up a barely used Model D with a PM5 for around $650. I'm thinking of buying the new Strength Trainer by Concept 2, been out maybe a year now. I have logged probably around 20million meters by now.
Kudos, have you gotten all the freebies? I recently passed 17 million logged, but my favorite was the first "Million Meter Club" t-shirt.

I see them regularly on offer up and craig's for $350 or so. I've also seen them much lower if they need a new handle, chain, or other readily available part. I recommend getting one with at least a PM4 monitor, but these can be replaced as well. There is not a charge for the Concept2 log book. My current setup is:
Concept 2 with PM4 monitor
Polar H9 heart rate monitor with chest strap
Fire HD tablet (any android based tablet or phone should work, but avoid Apple unless your unit has a PM5)
ErgData app from Concept2 (this has been deprecated, but can be found online)
The PM4 connects wirelessly to the H9 heart rate monitor, and to the tablet with a usb. If you get a PM5 monitor, you can do it all wirelessly, use the latest app, and easily incorporate Apple products into the mix.
I use a similar setup with a PM5 and Polar monitor but just listen to podcasts/audiobooks on headphones. As to buying used, I've seen them go for that range, too. I recently bought a Model E in perfect condition for $50 through nextdoor. I told seller they could get much more but they just wanted to get rid of it.

As an alternative, please consider a used Concept 2 for the following reasons:
  • Easy to recoup your money if you decide rowing is not for you
  • Rowing mechanics are somewhat transferrable to the water
  • Machines are virtually indestructible
  • Large community to interact and track your performance against
  • Breaks down so it can be transported in most sedans
This machine has drastically improved my heart health and flexibility. The new Concept2 rowing season starts tomorrow!
I tend to agree with this sentiment. However, any piece of equipment is good if it gets you moving. I have the Concept 2 and have been using it for the past 12 years. The Concept 2 is built like a TANK with solid CS support and a plethora of parts to fix anything. Concept2 really is a great company and I'm happy to support a company that truly puts their customers first.

I've owned this for two years. It's been bomb proof, honestly the best constructed piece of workout equipment I think I've ever owned. Magnetic is absolutely the way to go, don't mess with fans or water unless you like a ton of noise.
Magnetic is in no way better than fan resistance (specifically Concept2) when it comes to accurately replicating rowing on water. The noise isn't excessive but is noisier than magnetic (the tradeoff for a much better rowing experience).

I agree that C2 as a company is amazing. I had a defective rail on my ~20-yr-old Model D that I bought used and they sent a replacement rail for free without my even requesting it. Their forums, support, and incentives are also great. They're damn near perfect.
