While this is nice, if you're looking for a keyboard that you can take with you places without any extras like speakers, this isn't for you.

Very good controller and stage piano though for sure and I loved this action.

Just so someone else doesn't have to do this here is Gemini's verdict "For me, this deal is a strong opportunity to pick up one of the most reliable entry-level digital pianos on the market. The link you provided refers to a deal on the **Yamaha P-145** (or the **P-145BT** variant with Bluetooth), which recently replaced the long-standing P-45.
Here is a review of the instrument and an assessment of whether the deal is worth it.
### **The Piano: Yamaha P-145**
The P-145 is designed for beginners and intermediate players who need a compact, "no-frills" instrument that prioritizes a realistic feel.
* **Key Action (GHC):** It uses the new "Graded Hammer Compact" (GHC) action. This is a step up from the older P-45, offering a slightly more refined and quieter feel. Like an acoustic piano, the keys feel heavier in the bass and lighter in the treble.
* **Sound Quality:** It features the CFIIIS Concert Grand sample. It is "punchy" and bright—very classic Yamaha—and sounds excellent through headphones.
* **Connectivity:** Unlike its predecessor, it has a built-in USB audio interface. This is a major win if you plan to record directly into a computer or use iPad learning apps without needing extra hardware.
* **Portability:** It is remarkably slim and light (about 24 lbs), making it easy to store in a bedroom or move around the house.
**The Downsides:**
* **Polyphony:** At 64-note polyphony, it is lower than some competitors (like the Roland FP-10). While beginners won't notice, advanced players playing complex pieces with heavy pedaling might hear notes "cut off."
* **Onboard Speakers:** The 7W speakers are adequate for a small room but lack deep bass.
### **Is the Deal Worth It?**
To determine if this is a "buy" for you, compare the Slickdeals price against these 2026 market benchmarks:
* **MSRP/Standard Price:** ~$499–$549.
* **Good Deal:** Anything **under $450** for the P-145 is considered a solid deal.
* **Great Deal:** If the price is **under $400**, it is an "instant buy" territory for this specific model.
### **Comparison: P-145 vs. P-45**
If the deal is actually for the older **P-45** (which is still floating around as closeout stock), ensure the price is significantly lower (ideally under $350). The P-145 is worth a $50–$75 premium over the P-45 due to the better key action and the USB audio/Bluetooth features.
### **Recommendation**
If you are looking for a piano that "just works," doesn't take up much space, and will hold its resale value, this is the safest pick in the industry. It's an excellent tool for daily practice without the maintenance of an acoustic piano.

I don't think Gemini found the right keyboard here...

I just did some ChatGPT work to establish how good a deal this is. Basically, alternatives would run more expensive used to have the feel and function. The biggest issue is that this lacks any speaker, so headphones or bookshelf speakers (with their own amp) are necessary for practice. It DOES however have dual headphone jacks, so a teacher could also listen. At the cheapest, some PC speakers with a plug in amp would function, but there are $130 options that are suggested.

A lot of these, in similar class or price range, even sales I suppose, will have very similar close to real piano sounds. Where they can differ more widely is the key hammer action. I recommend that's where you focus on. Even as a beginner to learn, or one practicing. No keyboard will really be a piano, idk, guesstimate of 70% like real. But if the end is to do performances on a real piano, then you really want to ensure the hammer action is the closest to a real piano. At on the kind of affordable range, maybe like the P-45, Yamaha tends to be a good one. I bought an Alesis Prestige Artist. Piano players have said the action is lighter than Yamaha and Casio. But it has tons of sound effects, which I suppose helps my son to play on. I personally think the hammer action is vital.

You can, but you will need some studio monitors as there are no speakers. Or you could just use a headset. It's fairly high end, so it would grow with you for sure.

Something like these.

Studio Monitors
https://www.amazon.com/PreSonus-3..._puis?th=1

Then you will want to add a Damper / Sustain Pedal and a Stand.

This was a good deal at $500 a couple months ago, so this is even better. Great piano bed, interface is pretty powerful and makes sense eventually, but it is super dated. Sound engine is pretty good, lots of stuff for it on the forums.

You'll need to invest some time learning how to get around on this thing. The tiny screen and UI is not intuitive. Well worth it if you are willing to dig in. Pass if you are looking for simple, or a pretty helpful display --this is not that. If you want to geek out with midi and get into obscure setup details, this is pretty fantastic for that. You can tell this was designed by engineers --very flexible programming, but not pretty or helpful/handholding menus.

A lot of the alternatives vary depending on whether you want a synthesizer or a digial piano but common alternatives are the Roland FP30 and RD-08, both of which MSRP for >$1000.
This particular keyboard has some synthesizer functions but also has full 88 weighted keys so is a pretty perfect entry-level device for a digital piano or a synth at this price. IT's a pretty amazing deal honestly.
It's a relatively old model (released in 2013) but these things don't depreciate like computers or phones or tablets do.

This keyboard is in a complete different category from P-45/P-145.
