Klein's self adjusting wire stripper and cutter is praised as a handy upgrade for residential electrical work, especially on Romex and ladder jobs where it strips consistent lengths and feels easier than plier style tools. The design gets credit for cleaner, faster cuts than old school strippers, and it handles thicker audio cable and regular home use well. The main caveats are that it can struggle with 12 gauge outdoor wire, some pairs feel finicky or inconsistent, and the deal looks less compelling where the same tool has been seen cheaper in store.

Common Questions (5)

  • It is described as a worthwhile upgrade over basic plier-style or Walmart-type strippers, with cleaner, easier stripping and less effort on repeated cuts. A few comments prefer the Klein Katapult or Irwin/Vise-Grip alternatives for cleaner cuts, more features, or easier use on thicker cable.

  • Yes. It strips Romex to a consistent length and is described as especially useful for residential work, including installing LED recessed lights on a ladder. It is also reported to work well for most everyday residential wire stripping and cutting.

  • It can struggle with 12-gauge outdoor wire, where it may nick the individual conductors without fully removing the sleeve. For thicker stranded wire, 10 AWG stranded is reported to be handled by similar strippers, but this Klein model is specifically called out as not doing that job as well.

  • The value depends on local pricing and alternatives. Some stores reportedly had no discount, while others did, and the same item was also seen clearanced at Home Depot for $5 in-store, making $14.98 less attractive if that clearance is available nearby.

  • No. This model is described as a cutter/stripper only, and one practical downside noted is the lack of crimp notches for insulated or non-insulated terminals.

Bad deal, these have been clearancing out in Home depot across the nation for $5 (but you have to go in store for that)
Why pay $15 if you can get it for $5..

Maybe because there's little if any stock left. I just checked and there are none anywhere near me in stock.

Most of the HD near me still have these in stock, not just on clearance. I think they will eventually go on clearance slowly. Just have to wait

I must have got the only bad pair. Cutter would not bypass. Would not function consistently. Klein is a good brand but this pair is a fail.
