Klein's self adjusting wire stripper and cutter is praised as a handy upgrade for residential electrical work, especially on Romex and ladder jobs where it strips consistent lengths and feels easier than plier style tools. The design gets credit for cleaner, faster cuts than old school strippers, and it handles thicker audio cable and regular home use well. The main caveats are that it can struggle with 12 gauge outdoor wire, some pairs feel finicky or inconsistent, and the deal looks less compelling where the same tool has been seen cheaper in store.

  • The stripper and cutter can make consistent-length stripped ends on Romex for residential wiring tasks.

  • The tool can be easier to use on a ladder than plier-type strippers during light fixture installs.

  • The cutter design can feel like an upgrade over older manual strippers used for decades.

  • The stripper can work well for thicker audio cabling without problems for 14/12/10/8 gauge use.

  • The stripper can rip the shiny coating on 12-gauge outdoor wire without pulling the sleeve off.

  • The stripper can be finicky by stretching and pulling the Romex jacket until it rips, and it may not cut cleanly.

  • The cutter can fail to bypass and the tool can function inconsistently even when Klein is considered a good brand.

  • The deal value can vary by store because one location may not apply the discount while another does.

These will also strip10awg stranded wire, which the Kleins do not. I may have some future solar projects that would use 10awg stranded.

I have both of the Klein strippers and I usually grab the other one. This one is finicky and stretches and pulls on the Romex jacket until it rips apart. It doesn't cut. If there's space I just use a sharp utility knife instead. I find the Klein Katapult ones require less grip strength and has cleaner cuts with the slight sacrifice for slower speed. I mean they're both better than the normal wire strippers but yea I do prefer the other.

I have this and an Irwin that I use mainly for thicker audio cabling 14/12/10/8 gauge . Ive had no problems with either one . But I may give the nod to the Irwin for my usage . Both or good for my usage .
