Those who qualify can find a much better deal at AAFES. They offer $899 tax-free and free shipping.

Model MDHH4LL/A has the 8-core GPU.

Update: I did some more research. More specifically, the 16GB/512GB model has the 8-core GPU, but the 16GB/1TB model has the 10-core GPU.

This MacBook Air deal centers on the M5 13.6 inch model with 16GB memory and 512GB storage, and the main appeal is strong everyday performance in a thin, premium package. The screen, backlit keyboard, audio, MagSafe, and 16GB memory get the most praise, and Adobe apps, Figma, and other Apple Silicon software are described as running smoothly. The 16GB and 512GB configuration is also clarified as using an 8 core GPU, while the 1TB version carries the 10 core GPU. The main hesitation is value, since nearby pricing and trade in options can undercut it, and some would rather wait for 24GB memory or a better M4 or M5 offer.

Common Questions (4)

  • A qualifying AAFES purchase is listed at $899 tax-free with free shipping, which is lower than the $949.99 deal. Costco also reportedly shows the price valid until 5/10, and Amazon/Costco both list free shipping at $949.99.

  • 16GB RAM can be enough for Adobe apps, Figma, design work, and web development, and macOS apps are optimized for Apple Silicon. Heavy multitasking or memory-hungry workflows may still push users toward 24GB, especially if they regularly max out RAM and rely on SSD caching.

    LucasTPTunaSushiSohvkhanhondaman82

  • The 16GB/512GB configuration has an 8-core GPU. The 10-core GPU is tied to the 16GB/1TB model, though a 10-core GPU may also be configurable through Apple's site in a 16GB/512GB setup.

  • Yes. VMware Fusion, Parallels, and Oracle VirtualBox can run on Apple Silicon MacBook Air models and are capable of running Windows 11 for ARM as a virtual machine.

Much better value than the $700 MacBook Neo if you can afford the $950 for this MacBook Air.
2x processing, 2x memory, backlit keyboard, better audio, better screen, MagSafe.

Debating if I want to trade in M2 MBA base model .. BestBuy is giving 475 for it .. so it'll be 475+tax out of pocket for 8GB->16GB memory and 256GB->512GB Storage not to forget M2->M5 bump .. Other option is to wait till back to school and trade in to Apple around 370 but get 150 + Edu 100 discount ...

But why $700? Isn't the base model $500 w/ edu? But agreed that if anyone has to pay $600 + $100 upgrade for the Neo, they should just go for the $950 Air instead.

Wow thank u for showing me this. I can return my m4 15inch refurbished that I bought from Apple for 1005$ and spend $240 more to get the m5 version! Unless someone else knows of a better deal?

Just stop man. Every other day someone is going to put the MacBooks back on the same sale price, like clockwork. It's not a slick deal to get $150 off on one of these. It's expected.

Back after this price after a short break. Costco says price valid until 5/10. Still hoping for a better deal on an M4 that makes it worth it over this, but starting to think that may not happen...
I'm in the same boat as you. I need to get my kids laptops and I want something a bit more powerful than the MacBook Neo. Not sure if I should pull the trigger on this or wait until Black Friday. Hmmm...

To follow up on my earlier response, in case this matters to anyone, the 16GB/512GB model has the 8-core GPU, but the 16GB/1TB model has the 10-core GPU. However, it's also possible (via the Apple website, for example) to get the 10-core GPU in a 16GB/512GB setup.

If only it ran Windows 11. MacOS is useless for any professional applications. This is an expensive web browser.
Garbage take. macOS has high-quality applications compiled for Apple Silicon (ARM64) for software development, video editing, music production, design, and even Office itself.

Which "professional applications" are you talking about?
