Valvoline Hybrid ATF is drawing attention as a low cost multi vehicle automatic transmission fluid that also works well for power steering. The compatibility notes point to Mercon, Dexron II and III, Toyota WS, and SP IV applications, and the fluid is described as nearly identical to MaxLife multi vehicle ATF. The main caution is that Valvoline does not recommend it for most traditional CVTs or dual clutch transmissions unless specifically noted, and newer Toyota Type T IV applications are called out as not compatible. A flexible pick for older and widely specified systems.
DIY owners topping off or changing power steering fluid that calls for Dexron II/III because commenters said it's working fine in power steering that specifies Dexron II/III and they plan to use it for transmission fills too.
People doing drain-and-fill ATF service on a vehicle that specifically calls for Toyota WS because commenters said it can be used in Toyota WS and they're planning to use it in a transmission that calls for Toyota WS.
Owners of older transmissions that accept Mercon/Dexron because the data sheet commenters referenced says it's Mercon and Dexron compatible, and one commenter suggested it for an older tranny.
Drivers with multiple older vehicles that specify different ATF types (e.g., Mercon LV, Toyota WS, SP-IV) because commenters reported using the same Valvoline Hybrid ATF across a Crown Vic (Mercon LV), Scion xB (Toyota WS), and Hyundai (SP-IV), and even considering more for another SP-IV vehicle.
Drivers with a traditional CVT or a DCT that isn't specifically listed as compatible because a commenter shared Valvoline's caution that it's not recommended for most traditional CVTs and DCTs unless specifically noted.
Shoppers who need it for a vehicle that requires Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV (JWS3309/NWS6500) because one commenter said a newer Toyota requires Type T-IV and that it's not compatible.
Yes, it is reported as compatible with Mercon LV, Dexron II/III, and SP-IV use cases. It has also been used successfully in power steering systems calling for Dexron II/III and in older Toyota applications that take Dexron II.
Yes, it is used for Toyota WS applications and is described as compatible with Toyota WS on the product sheet. It is also reported to work in a Scion xB and other Toyota vehicles that call for WS.
Valvoline does not recommend this fluid for most traditional CVTs or DCTs unless the vehicle manual specifically calls for it. It is being used in some CVT applications, but the product guidance still excludes most CVTs and dual-clutch transmissions.
Yes, it has been used in power steering systems that call for Dexron II/III and is reported to be working fine. It is also being bought specifically for older Toyota power steering applications.
Please clarify, Can this be used in a regular automatic transmission like a Toyota. I realize it has extra additives but it says WS compatible and I'm seeing contradictory information.. I already poured it in perhaps I need to flush it out. 🤔

Yes it's fine , I'd use Castrol Transmax next Drain and fill in 30k though
Still available for $1.45. I just bought 4 to use in my 30 year old Toyota that takes Dexron II for ATF and power steering. Thinking of buying a few more as it is good to use as power steering in my second 22 year old Toyota as well. Interestingly the newer car requires "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T−IV"
(ATF JWS3309 or NWS6500) for the transmission which is not compatible.
