I found one review from Svet Kompjutera (linked on the ASUS product page). If you don't understand Serbian, Google can translate: https://www-sk-rs.translate.goog/...r_pto=wapp

The review seemed generally favorable, though I don't think it was a very thorough analysis of the router. This router was released around March 2026 according to that review & Google Gemini (Ai). It'll be a while before more sites can review it. If you don't need a 10GBPS port, this may be an OK choice. This router has only 2.5GB ports (WAN & LAN).

The technical specifications are here: https://www.asus.com/us/networkin.../techspec/ Good that it's tri-band WiFi 7 (2.4ghz/5ghz/6ghz band), has 1GB of RAM and is AiMesh compatible with other ASUS routers. The bad/disappointing news is it only has 2x2 spatial stream support on all 3 bands. It would be better to have 4x4 on 5ghz and 6ghz bands. I don't think 4x4 on 2.4ghz is a big deal as it's such a worthless band (too crowded) and only IoT devices and silly smart plugs/doorbell cameras seem to use 2.4ghz anymore.

Seems like an average router to me. Not a terribly compelling purchase. I'll stick with my WiFi 6 ASUS XT8.

Looks like it was just released in March; might be better than the BE92U for stability but on paper it's not quite as good. Slower 2.4Ghz max speeds and slower CPU (1.5Ghz vs 2). Could be a newer CPU though; clock speed isn't everything. Only 2.5gbe ports ok this one while the 92U has two 10 gbe ports. Shouldn't matter unless you pay for internet faster than 2gbps.

Interesting, the comparison page shows 3x3 on 6Ghz just like the 92U but the main page you linked says 2x2. https://www.asus.com/us/product-c...ers-WiFi-7

I checked the comparison page you posted above, as well as the 90U tech specs page. Both show the 90U has this:

6GHz 2x2
5GHz 2x2
2.4GHz 2x2

Yeah, i wish the 92U had better reviews. The 10GB WAN/LAN port is juicy! (It only has a single 10GB port). But it's been such a dog for so long that I just don't trust it. Even if you think Amazon reviews can't be trusted, check Reddit and you see even more negative posts there too. Not sure what went wrong but it looks like ASUS screwed up on the 92U.

There are apparently multiple hardware revisions of the 92U. I believe the latest may be revision 6. Be careful buying a "refurbished" 92U or an old 92U from Amazon Warehouse, as it may be revision 1 or 2, which are known to be stinkers. Best to just avoid 92U at this point.

Ok I must just be sleep deprived. I'm also thinking about the Unifi Express 7 and apparently speed and spatial stream-wise it's the same as this one. $10 more regular price.

Edit: and the 3x3 on the 92U is on the 2.4Ghz not 6, which explains the faster speed there.

So what's new. Companies use newer tech. To deliver same or less performance and charging same or more money because 'we are dying for it'

If you're considering UniFi, you may know their products have various features. If you upgrade to the Dream Router 7 (DR7), you add support for other capabilities such as Protect, Access, Talk and Connect. DR7 = $279.99, compared to $199 for the UniFi Express 7 (UE7). The DR7 adds more 2.5GB LAN ports too, compared to the UE7. FYI during Black Friday UniFi has their best sales (based on what I've seen historically). Last year the DR7 was $229. So if you're interested in the DR7 and want the best price, it'll likely be on a similar sale this November. If it goes for $229 again then that's only $30 more than the UE7's $199 price. (I don't think the UE7 was on sale last BF.) Historical 2025 BF price notes, for reference: https://www.crosstalksolutions.co...day-deals/

If you don't care about those other features, then UE7 looks good for $199. It only has a single LAN port, so you'd need to buy a 2.5GB switch. UniFi sells those too, which you probably already know. Here's one for about $50: https://store.ui.com/us/en/catego...lex-2-5g-5

One other note, UniFi devices are well known to not have as much reach/coverage capability as network equipment by other brands such as ASUS, Netgear, etc. The ASUS BE90U has a claimed coverage area of "up to 2,500 square feet." UniFi's DR7 & UE7 claim coverage of 1,750 square feet. And you may not even get that much coverage. If you need more coverage, you'll need to add a wireless access point (such as one of these - https://store.ui.com/us/en/category/all-wifi) so you have WiFi coverage everywhere you need it. UniFi is notorious for being easy to set up, but potentially costly as well, due to the need to expand the network by adding all these other devices. If you are trying to save $$, UniFi can get expensive. But folks who use it really like it, so I believe it's worth the potential cost increase.

I got one of the Refurbished 92U from WOOT! updated to the latest firmware from ASUS(04/01) and so far so good going on a second week of use...the 92U is supported by Merlin if you want more options available.

Yeah, we debated between the RT-BE92U and the RT-BE86U for a long time. We settled on the RT-BE86U and it has been rock solid.

That is great news! Thanks for sharing. Could you look on the bottom of the router and tell us which "H/W Ver" is listed? As you can see in this review, one of the photos shows the bottom of the router, where the "H/W Ver:" information is printed: https://root-nation.com/en/other-...2u-review/

I'm wondering if you have an earlier version or later version of the H/W. It would be useful to know which H/W version is working well. Thanks.

The RT-BE86U is a pretty router! I like that it has the 10GB WAN/LAN port too. As long as you don't need WiFi 7's 6ghz band, the RT-BE86U looks like a great choice.

Thanks for the info. Are you using MLO (Multi Link Operation) on your router? I have heard of that causing issues for some people. I'm happy to hear ver 1.0 is working well for you.
