Ego has a discharge feature to keep the longevity of the battery healthy. If I remember correctly if it hasn't been used for a month it will discharge to 50%
I've owned an Ego lawnmower for 6 years now and my 5.0AH battery has about 20 minutes less charge. I've been waiting for a deal for a backup battery and here it is.
Boy, you're gonna be disappointed with the runtime on a battery with half the capacity of your old one... the 2.5 only gives me about 30 min with a weed eater...

yup i've seen this flash red lights when it was doing that, scared me for a sec, had to google it
So, how come other batteries don't have those features? and if how does it help compared to others?
It's a longevity strategy to preserve the Li-Ion cells. They will last longer if held near mid-charge, rather than sitting at full charge for long lengths of time. But most users want to just throw them on the charger, fully charge, and swap until all batteries fully charged, then store them all for next use. Ultimately a bad habit for longevity...which would be to use the battery, stop or swap before it 'dies', then get in a habit of charging just before use. Another popular strategy is simply to disallow the user to discharge below 15% or similar, preserving a portion of charge the user never accesses.

Bought this at $109 and don't feel bad. The 2.5ah is noticeably lighter than the 4ah/5ah batteries and is nicer to use in the smaller devices like hedge trimmer or leaf blower. Yes it's a better deal packaged with a tool but I don't need the tools in the combos.
But does it have a USB port for device charging⦠š¤£
No, but they have several models of inverters and power stations. As someone who lives in a place with poor power reliability, they're really useful at that job.
I have 2 flashing red and have tried all the tricks. What does everyone do when they get to this point?
You've tried the "drop" technique and tried recovering it by connecting directly to a good battery to get the voltage high enough for the charger to charge it?
Only thing I've found those batteries useful for is to just use them for low-draw tools, like the Ego fans. I'm not interested in disassembling them and trying to recover individual cells.
