good brand and product. battery lasts decently long, haven't had to change it too often. price is meh, i would wait till it goes lower

I haven't been happy with Shlage product quality as of late. Just had a simple handle break beyond repair and I don't have kids hanging on it or anything.

I use these that allow you to switch the auto lock on and off. They work well and are easy to program.

Almost pulled trigger but unlike kwikset ones, this brand looks like you need to take off the entire handle to replace the battery? kwikset one I'm using right now can easily replace the battery from inside just with single screw so probably a pass for me

I have similar Schlage ones and you are correct - you need to pull one knob, then take out the two primary retaining screws to access the battery. At the time I went with this because it used a 9V where everyone else had 4xAA and I had more faith in a good 9V. Looking online - it looks like Kwikset has ones like the 955 that have a 9v also - what model do you have an do you like it?
After several years with these, I'd buy them again, but they aren't perfect: A) some touchpads work better than others (I have several) and B) I have had two that slowly quit working. I've had to take them apart, and you have a little motor that spins a coil spring that works as the actuator - I had to take that apart, put it back together, and they started to work again. C) The wiring harness going to the battery looks flimsy and I'm nervous every time I replace a battery, but I haven't broke one yet.
Battery life on these are fantastic - I could not be happier with that aspect and I won't go back to normal keys after owning them.
Also looks like you can easily re-key the Kwikset - these I had to order with matching key codes.

I have had two of these fail over the years. Whatever mechanism that pulls in the latch failed on both. It would unlock, but pulling on the handle would do nothing. I love Schlage, but haven't had luck with this model. They sent me replacements but I just sold them.

My recommendation for anyone buying these is to keep the key handy, you may need it.

A piece of tape over the pads fixes the exploit. That's if your unit has the pads in the first place; they've been removed in newer revisions.

This model is not a dead bolt. Schlage sells deadbolt only models (no handles though).
