I doubt that since, compared to Samsung A9+ 5G Tablet (I assume that's what you are referring to), this tablet has much better specs. Having said that, if it does go down further, it will be an even better deal Smilie

Does this fall under the same 1 year unlock policy as phones? Or can I just pop in my tablet T-Mobile sim

Based on past experience with metro tablets, same unlock policy as phones. 365 days should have passed after initial activation.

Please explain what you mean by "Powerful MediaTek D6300 5G processor"? A G99 CPU is the same speed (maybe 2% faster) and it has been 3 years since we have been seeing G99 CPU on the LOWeST LEVEL tablets.

Even Samsung STOPPED using the 6300 BECAUSE IT IS OLD TECH AND TOO SLOW. But you are telling everyone it is POWERFUL... yes it was POWERFUL about 6 years ago.

Much better specs when you compare it to the 8GB A9+ ??? I don't think I would go that far. They both use UFS 2.2.

Due to the better CPU (newer and more effient) I would say the Moto is about 5 - 10% faster. I would not say that is "MUCH" better specs. I would actually change the word MUCH to BARELY.

But the moto does a MUCH better screen... if that helps. And the screen is important. ALSO moto has WAY less bloatware and most of it can be disabled or deleted. To me this is the most important aspect.

Moto use to be much cleaner.... but it is still not bad, nothing like Samsung which is the worst of the worst. The "Sneaky" Bloat: Recent reviews for the 2026 models mention a "System Tray" or "Moto Hub" feature in the launcher. This sometimes injects affiliate links or "suggested apps" into your search results. For example, searching for an app might suggest a web link that generates a commission for Motorola. The Good News: Almost all of this can be turned off in the settings, and third-party apps like Facebook or LinkedIn can usually be uninstalled completely, not just "disabled."

This is what I don't understand...

$20.00 for 13 months (you need to wait 12 FULL months to unlock) = $260.00 + initial cost.

Why don't you buy a better tablet and use your cell phone's hotspot or your home's wifi? This is what I do not understand?

You don't have to pay after first month for service and use the tablet as wifi only and it will still unlock after 365 days past activation

WOW... now I understand. THANK YOU!!!!

After some research... why Metro would do this... This is what I came up with...

It definitely seems like a massive loophole, but Metro (and their parent company, T-Mobile) actually has a few business reasons for why they "allow" this to happen:

Tax Incentives and Market Share: Even if you never pay for a second month, you count as a "new activation" in their quarterly reports. Investors love seeing high subscriber growth numbers, even if some of those people drop off quickly.
The "Hurdle" Factor: Most people don't have the patience to wait 365 days. Metro bets that the average customer will either keep paying for the service because they need a working phone now, or they'll lose/break the phone before the year is up.
Hardware Costs: Companies like TCL often give carriers deep discounts on these phones to get their brand into people's hands. Metro isn't necessarily paying "full retail" for that TCL NXTPAPER, so the loss isn't as big as it looks.
The New 365-Day Rule: They actually did just change the rule. It used to be only 180 days (6 months), but they doubled it to a full year in May 2024 specifically to make the "drawer trick" less appealing and to claw back more of that "lost" money.

By the time the year is up, the phone is "old tech" in the mobile world, so they've already moved on to selling the next model.

Samsung won't unlock the bootloader for you. So the user is limited to the stock ROM and the bloatware.
Moto will unlock their bootloader for free online. Users can flash a GSI-rom, stay bloatware-free
