True, but this is built for power tools, not to protect a laptop. Power tools are more likely to cause slightly higher voltage spikes which would trigger the shutoff in a surge protector with a lower clamping voltage. This appears to be a decent product for its intended use, but not a great choice to replace the surge protectors we have in our entertainment centers and home offices.

Joules capacity is good, but the clamping voltage is high too(which is not good). Pretty common with basic household surge protectors in this price range. People don't realize the clamping voltage is more important, which is why it's rarely advertised. They don't want you to know it sucks.

Still decent for non-electronic equipment and would protect electric motors, drills, etc..
