Sta-Green Premium Mulch is a budget mulch deal that stands out for the 2 cubic foot bags, especially if you can pick it up or get free delivery on six bags or fewer. The larger chunks help it stay put better than finer mulch, and the colored mulch looks good around the house. The main knocks are inconsistent bag quality, with reports of mold, water damage, light black color, or chunky pieces, and delivery can be canceled when orders go past the free limit. A practical option if you want coverage and can work within the pickup or delivery rules.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. Free delivery appears to apply to 6 bags or fewer; adding a 7th bag can trigger a delivery charge, and larger orders may switch to a paid delivery option. Several orders of a second 6-bag batch were also canceled immediately, so the free-delivery workaround is not reliable.

  • The mulch is described as decent and made of larger chunks that tend to stay put better than finer mulch. A caveat is that some bags can be light in color, waterlogged, moldy, or contain rips, so picking bags in person can help.

  • Yes. Store pickup is a practical way to avoid delivery charges and save money, especially if you need more than the free-delivery limit. Picking it up also lets you inspect bags for mold, rips, or color issues before loading them.

  • Yes. These Sta-Green bags are 2 cubic feet, while the Scotts mulch mentioned for comparison is 1.5 cubic feet. That means each Sta-Green bag covers more area per bag.

  • The black version can look lighter than expected, with one report saying it was so light it was barely brown. If you want a very dark black mulch, it may be worth checking the bags in person before buying.

These are decent quality too. I've gotten other ones where it's full of junk (trash, seeds, etc)

Went in store to buy this and wasnt happy with the black color. The mulch itself seemed ok but the black was so light I'd of barely called it brown. I'd rather buy the stuff from Menards, has a bit of garbage in it but at least it's black.

I always pick it up myself so I can select the bags. On occasion, some bags have white mold, others are waterlogged due to rips, others have light color. I reject about 10%. Took 3 trips, 60 bags total in my SUV and redid my front lawn area. As long as you lift correctly, you wont hurt your back, and it is good exercise for your quads and arms.

how does this mulch compare vs getting a truck load of mulch from a local company for $35?

do the pieces stay in place when it rains hard? I see pieces of mulch washed down the sidewalk when I walk in the neighborhood.
My mulch stays in place. And I use a blower to get the leaves out.

I got 2 orders of 6 bags each delivered free yesterday, but when I placed a new order this morning, the system immediately canceled it - and logged me out - and then made me change my password when I went to log back in. So I tried again, thinking there must have been some glitch... and the whole string of things happened again.

Googling around after getting zero answers (really, none) from their "customer service" number, it looks like this has been an issue with Lowe's for years, system bots deciding no more soup for you.
So I paid a little more and ordered mulch from Home Depot, also with free delivery, and no bizarre shenanigans.
Whelp, same thing happened to me. I tried to place my second order yesterday right after my first, and while the first order was delivered within hours, the second order was cancelled immediately. I didn't go back to the website until early this AM, and had to reset my password and all of that. I decided to wait until just now to try another order of 6, it was also immediately cancelled(like I received the cancellation sms text within like 4 seconds), it took like 5 min to invalidate my password. I guess if I want more I have to go to the store... not cool.

I have used chipdrop once a year for the past six years. Good experience with it, and I use it for my perimeter trees and fruit trees since I don't want the dye from the colored mulch to leech into my fruit.

Colored stuff for around the house though since it's looks nicer.
