1) this isn't Uber Eats, and it isn't GrubHub either.
2) your order is fulfilled and billed by Instacart. I'm the OP and I'm very versed with Instacart's platform and promo code application set up.
As I've stated, once you've placed and CONFIRMED your order, as the order is being shopped, if items on your order are OOS that you've said "don't substitute" on as the order items are being collected at the store, you are credited back on those items and the $50 off promo is not affected.
When you say 'you lost the discount' did you allow the order to go just take place and bill out?
I can assure you today, I participated in this deal my self with an ALDI pick up order. Things were OOS with no subs allowed after the order was placed. I added nothing more to my order, items OOS were about $15, I paid $35ish charged to my CC versus $50. I was sent the final receipt showing all the math.

Was this a one time offer?
Also...for those suggesting not tipping because they think store employees do the shopping...that would be wrong. Instacart shoppers are the ones doing 95% of the work and tips really help since IC doesn't pay great on it's own. Most of these "shop only" orders pay the IC shopper under $5-$10. They do more work than a restaurant server, so I always tip generously!
