Works on Windows and Android immediately, no setup. Don't buy for Linux. The ASIX chipset in this is notoriously buggy on Linux (can confirm!). For Linux, buy a USB ethernet adapter with a Realtek chipset.

I bought one of these last week for $9, and it has both the USB C and A options for connection to your device. It's a Realtek chipset 10/1000, which is superior to the low grade TP Link stuff. I recommend this:
