While it lacks 360 obstacle avoidance, it does have down-facing sensors to help with stability in the air and to help prevent you from landing somewhere you don't want to be. The Mini 4k is very stable, even in gusts of 20mph. It's very easy to fly, only requiring you to push the stick in the direction you want it to fly. Between the flight controller and the 6-axis gimbal, you have a completely stable camera platform. As such the photos and video are fantastic. I mostly fly in cinema mode which is slower but more precise.
As awesome as it is, the Mini 4k lacks advanced automation features. There is no API access so you can't plot autonomous flight paths. It has a few pre-baked flight patterns but they are of limited usefulness. If it's gusting over about 20mph, the flight controller start complaining and it gets tricky to land.
I plan to spend a year really getting to know the Mini 4k than see about graduating to a DJI Air. Just keep in mind that you have to register the Air and get certified with the FAA to legally operate it in the US.
