About this eBook:
- A Confederacy of Dunces is an American comic masterpiece. John Kennedy Toole's hero, one Ignatius J. Reilly, is "huge, obese, fractious, fastidious, a latter-day Gargantua, a Don Quixote of the French Quarter. His story bursts with wholly original characters, denizens of New Orleans' lower depths, incredibly true-to-life dialogue, and the zaniest series of high and low comic adventures" (Henry Kisor, Chicago Sun-Times).

A Confederacy of Dunces is a classic comic novel that lands as a genuinely funny, often masterpiece level read. The story builds thread after thread until everything comes together, and Toole's New Orleans descriptions are vivid enough to make the city feel immediate even when place names have changed. It also carries a notable posthumous publication story behind it. The main caveat is that the humor may read as funny rather than outright hilarious for some readers, but it remains a memorable, re readable classic.
The posthumous publication history adds context that readers say makes the book even more compelling.
The novel delivers classic comedy that readers describe as done really well.
The story structure builds many threads that eventually come together in a satisfying way.
The book can make New Orleans feel vivid even when place names have changed.
The humor level may not feel "hilarious" to every reader, even when the book is still worth reading.
The tragic story attached to the comedy may be a drawback for readers who prefer lighter themes.
