Is this a lot better than their standard one? I was just cutting 2x4's with the brushed version and it was stalling out, I was very disappointed.

It's supposed to be. I've only ever used this model once and it was to break down a pallet, didn't have any hiccups with that. Your best best is to find some youtube videos / reviews with cut demos
