i honestly don't get why the Yakuza series is popular. Other than a decent storyline, the battles are really simple and repetitive. played 1,2,3, 6.

Why'd you play that many if you didn't like them? Play 7 (Yakuza: Like a Dragon) and 8 (Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth) . Those are much better games. They're turn-based. There's more strategy, since they're not button mashing beat-em-up games.

Obviously 1's story didn't age well since it was that kind of storyline type during the 2000s. 2 was ok though. The newer games aren't all that great either, going to turn based from action games because people apparently were complaining how hard it was to play as a 3rd person action RPG. The new games are way too easy, no strategy whatsoever since everything does a ton of damage. You can never lose/get a game over or anything in these new gen, hand holding entries unless you're like severely, severely under-leveled or something weird like that.
