The Roomba j7 plus is a camera based self emptying robot vacuum that does well on hard floors and can avoid obstacles, including pet messes, while the self emptying bin and replacement parts help keep ownership costs down. Several long term reports say it still works great after years, with decent battery life and solid pickup for dust and dog hair. The main drawbacks are slower cleaning than lidar models, weaker coverage, and recurring navigation or docking problems. Some units also needed resets, repairs, or arrived with missing parts, so it is a better fit if you can live without lidar speed and want obstacle avoidance.

  • Homes needing a self-emptying robot that still works for years, because it can run reliably for several years and keep going strong.

  • Shoppers wanting a camera-based robot that avoids obstacles, because it can steer around objects and may dodge pet waste.

  • Households with mostly hard floors and light daily debris, because it can clear dog hair and dust in a single pass and avoid pets messes.

  • Owners who already use the same robot ecosystem, because replacement bags, brushes, and batteries are widely available and keep upkeep budget-friendly.

  • Shoppers starting from scratch who want long-term confidence, because support, warranty handling, privacy, and app reliability can be problematic.

  • Busy households needing dependable mapping and docking, because it can stop randomly, miss rooms, fail to dock, and need resets.

  • People who want lidar-style room coverage and faster navigation, because it can take about twice as long and cover rooms less completely.

  • Homes with thick carpet or heavy pickup needs, because it can leave enough debris that a stick vacuum or sweeping is still needed.

Ok. So the company that creates these for them bought out the company. They continue on.

I have this same vacuum and got it on sale 2 years ago and wish I never replaced my shark. Doesn't pick up much material, still have to stick vacuum or sweep. I do mostly have hardwood with throw rugs.

Get one with lidar. Have this one and one with lidar and you can see the difference in coverage of the room.

The nice thing about this one is that it will avoid objects with the camera on it. Supposedly will avoid poo, which is how one of mine ended up in the trash (couldn't get smell out of it)

Interesting, I have a shark ion robot vac and that thing can't pickup anything...replaced with a roborock and its night and day difference. Even my 12 year old roomba does a better job than it ever did. Only reason I keep the shark around is it has the shark wand

Hmm. I replaced my Shark with this vacuum and it's been amazing. Had it for about four years I guess, and it's still going strong.

I have one of these for a few years now, and the navigation went to crap without explanation, where it stops in random spots, or spins in circles, or misses rooms. support wasn't helpful. don't recommend.

This was supposed to dodge obstacles, but at least one a month I'm trying to extricate some strap or string from some toy from its clutches and even when it avoids obstacles it still gets lost or stuck somewhere in the house at least three days a week. I HATE it.

This is a solid unit at this price. Gets the job done, takes about twice as long vs any Roborock with a lidar. Highly recommend if this meets your budget and you don't need a mop.
