The Roomba j7 plus is a camera based self emptying robot vacuum that does well on hard floors and can avoid obstacles, including pet messes, while the self emptying bin and replacement parts help keep ownership costs down. Several long term reports say it still works great after years, with decent battery life and solid pickup for dust and dog hair. The main drawbacks are slower cleaning than lidar models, weaker coverage, and recurring navigation or docking problems. Some units also needed resets, repairs, or arrived with missing parts, so it is a better fit if you can live without lidar speed and want obstacle avoidance.
Common Questions (5)
The j7+ uses a camera instead of lidar, so it can avoid objects but may take longer and cover rooms less efficiently than lidar models. If you want faster, more systematic cleaning, a Roborock or other lidar robot is often preferred.
It can avoid objects with its camera and is designed to dodge pet waste, but it still can get stuck on straps, strings, and toys. Some owners report it successfully avoiding dog puke and poop, while others say it still gets lost or stuck several days a week.
On hard floors and mixed hardwood/linoleum, it can pick up most dog hair and dust in a single pass, but corners, edges, and throw rugs may still need a stick vac or sweeping. Some users say it performs well, while others say it misses a lot of material on hardwood with rugs.
At $150, it is considered a strong price if you already want an iRobot ecosystem with available bags, rollers, and batteries. It is less compelling if you are starting from scratch and want lidar-based navigation, faster coverage, or stronger long-term support.
Some units work for years, but others develop navigation problems such as spinning, stopping randomly, missing rooms, or failing to dock fully. App issues are also reported, including no real-time location updates and occasional reset needs.

The nice thing about this one is that it will avoid objects with the camera on it. Supposedly will avoid poo, which is how one of mine ended up in the trash (couldn't get smell out of it)
