I don't know about fridge but I sprinkle this in my diaper pail and it does help absorb smells, it does need to be changed out every couple weeks because eventually the baking soda starts to smell like dirty diapers.

best at neutralizing acidic odors (sour milk, garbage, pet odor), acting as a mild, scratch-free abrasive for scouring surfaces, and removing grease

Baking soda is not a complete myth, but its effectiveness is often overstated. It works via chemical neutralization of acidic odors, but requires air circulation to be effective. It is best used as a mild maintenance tool alongside regular cleaning, rather than a solution for major odor issues. How it Works: Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a base that reacts with acidic odor molecules (such as spoiled milk or fish) and turns them into neutral-smelling sodium salts.Limitations: It is most effective when the box is opened wide, and it takes up to three days to reduce odors. It cannot overcome a filthy fridge.Alternatives: Other effective methods for removing or masking smells include 1, 3:Activated charcoal: More effective than baking soda at trapping odors.Coffee grounds: Absorbs odors while leaving a fresh scent 1.White vinegar or lemon juice: Good for cleaning and odor removal 12.Maintenance: Replace the baking soda box every 30 to 60 days to ensure it keeps working.

Might as well add my 2 cents, poke hole in hot ant bed and sprinkle baking soda over the bed to rid of hot ants

My garage fridge started to smell bad. Stuck one of these boys in there and by the end of the day, the smell was completely gone. I don't mention anything to the wife but she also commented on it. So I guess your nose knows.

I bought baking soda in bulk a few years ago from Costco and have been adding some to a plastic cup along with a piece of charcoal in it that I replace every 6-8 months. Still going strong (effective at a negligible cost - fraction of what you would pay to buy these) and been the cheapest solution...
