I see a lot of comments/questions about this particular axe by people who may not be familiar with this axe or it's following. I originally posted this deal because I think it's a great price. I've also been very familiar with this axe for some time. I mean, pound for pound, for $28, I think it's the best deal that exists. But, I'm just one person with one opinion. With that in mind, since it's actually still available at Amazon, if you are doing some research and curious, I thought I would share some thoughts.

Link to WranglerStar youtube video endorsing this Trail Boss (there are many other youtube videos about this axe, I just think this one is brief and to the point) - https://youtube.com/shorts/VhFnkk...RHAENKm09e
ALSO, and this seems to be very important, this Trail Boss is ONLY 27" long and the head ONLY weighs 1 lb, 13 oz. More commonly known as a Boys Axe or Camp Axe or Cruiser or Half Axe or Forest Axe and some other nicknames as well. If you are thinking this will be your primary wood splitting axe you will be SORELY disappointed!
Most axes in this range have a head weight from 1 1/2 lbs to 2 1/2 lbs and have a handle length of 24"-28". Comparing this axe to anything outside of those parameters is just not helpful/useful/applicable. These are lightweight axes at best and that is the only category they should properly be placed in.
There are MULTIPLE discussions on "reddit/Axecraft" about this Trail Boss. Here is just 1 of those discussions: https://www.reddit.com/r/Axecraft...came_with/
For COMPARISON - American made, Council Tool for $62.15 shipped: https://www.harryepstein.com/prod...162ff16c-1
For COMPARISON - here is a Swisstech Axe from Walmart ($49.97) that has been getting a lot of attention: https://www.walmart.com/ip/28IN-T...5baa59fe09
A HEAVIER option, but in the same pricing arena ($32.00) is this option from Harbor Freight: https://www.harborfreight.com/4-1...3IQAvD_BwE
One pricier option, ($92) but made by an Amish family in Maine, is this Snow and Nealley axe: https://a.co/d/0hdLEFRG
Hope that helps a little bit. All the best to all you slickers out there! 😁

You didn't ask me but I can't say enough good things about the fiskars x27. It's insanely good, out performs any splitting maul, while being lighter weight. I've purchased 2 additional as gifts, and blown folks away at how efficient this "axe" profile is for splitting.

Splitting axes are ideal for, you guessed it, splitting wood. That means striking already cut wood rounds on the end grain. Splitting axes tend to have a wedge shaped profile and thicker head. On the other hand, a chopping axe is ideal for felling trees, or chopping logs apart by striking the wood perpendicular to the grain. Splitting axes tend to have a thinner blade profile because you are trying to slice through the wood rather than pop the grain apart as you do with a splitting axe. The fiskar splitting axe mentioned before is a good one. I have this one which is very similar to the fiskar but is cheaper. I paid $35 six years ago and it's still going strong. https://a.co/d/00DzYHeu

I've only posted a couple of deals so please correct me if I have made a mistake. Thanks.

Using that word on a Slickdeals post when it isn't a price mistake is a mistake.

Good deal, but note that this is not good for splitting wood due to the head profile.

Any particular one you'd recommend for splitting wood?

Boss axe, perfect gift for your overbearing wife on Mother's Day. It's the last gift you'll ever need to give her.

Ah, man. I guess I can't put this in the washing machine.

Looks like that one has a coupon that gets it down to $60 too.
