If you are on(or qualify for) some type of government assistance, you may qualify for half off Prime."Government Assistance DiscountsIf you receive qualifying government assistance or have a low income, you may qualify for Prime Access:
  • Eligible programs: SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, WIC, TANF, or income under ~150% of the federal poverty line.2
  • Cost: About $6.99/month, roughly 50% off the".
If people are 150% of the poverty, you think they can afford $6.99/month for prime? They're looking to just feed themselves every day.

But Amazon does not offer the $69/year Prime subscription to people on those eligible programs. You'd figure that people retired or on assistance would need it more than college students who are usually still under their parents' wing
Have you even tried, or are you asking for someone else?
Prime Access:

Ok. Maybe not $69/yr. But $6.99/mo.

not tying with anyone else. my preexisting amazon account is non-edu. so can i signup with a currently verifiable edu email or id or course listing (or whatever amazon requires) such that my new media purchases accumulate in my preexisting account?
I started with a regular(non-Prime) Amazon account, for quite a few years. Really was never attracted to the 1 or 2 day Prime delivery thing. I can, and still do, choose No-Rush delivery, virtually whenever offered.

Then tried and did Prime Student for 4½ years. Been on Regular Prime since(about 3 years).

Nothing has changed about my account during this entire time, except I guess, how it was labeled: regular non-Prime, Student Prime, regular Prime.

No changes, as I recall.

Wow that sucks. I'm 60 and went back to college for an environmental science degree and planned to get the discount again.
Might be because of the degree. Suggest switching to computer science and checking the discount again.

so when you signed up for stuent prime for the first time, you were able to keep it connected with your previous regular non-prime (and i assume non-student) account?

Yes. You always keep the same account/email address. Your .edu email is only used to verify that you have one, hence proof you are a student.
It's been so long, don't remember precisely, but I think they probably send some kind of verification code to your .edu email.
Like I say, been a while, for me. Some things may have changed.
Good luck.

I'm more concerned with the MSRP than the $69 (really Amazon?). Has prime ballooned to $180 a year now? JFC

I haven't renewed my membership and haven't missed it. Shipping was always slow. Walmart subscription made more sense and much faster delivery

Does this.promo have an end dates. I want to have my college kid sign up for this once my paid prime membership ends in October. Try to minimize overlap.

Amazon has had the student half off(reduced rate) running for a very long time. Many years, continuously.
