DO NOT buy this over a M5 Air base model at $950 IMHO ($850 open box at BestBuy) 16gb/512SSD worth the higher price for newer faster CPU/GPU and 512SSD
If youre a super low basic user and don't use a lot of storage this M4 is a good/decent deal. after MacOS is fully installed it usually takes up 30+GB on the 256 SSD and you only have a little over 200GB free on the SSD.
My $0.02
Waiting for something might not be the best move. Especially if it's from a company that does NOT telegraph their upcoming releases until they deem it fit to announce. So "maybe" it has oled, "maybe" it has touchscreen -- or maybe not. There's absolutely, genuinely zero guarantee of anything.
Get what you need, when you need it.
Community Reviews
The 13 inch M4 MacBook Air at $700 stands out as a strong value for everyday use, especially for portability, battery life, and general school, office, web, and travel tasks. It is described as compact, fast enough for light photo work and even some 4K video editing, with Costco adding warranty coverage and a lower price than Apple or open box alternatives. The main tradeoff is the 256GB SSD, which can fill quickly once macOS and apps are installed, making 512GB more appealing for larger photo, music, or offline media libraries. It is a solid fit if you want a light Mac and can live with modest storage.
Common Questions (5)
The 13-inch M4 Air is the better value if you want portability and mostly do web, documents, streaming, and light work. Spend more for the 15-inch or M5 if you want more screen space, 512GB storage, better sustained performance, or a Pro-level display and speakers.
It is fine for basic users who mostly stream media and keep files in iCloud, but it fills up quickly if you store lots of photos, music, videos, or TV shows locally. macOS itself takes 30+GB, leaving a little over 200GB free, and upgrading later usually means using an external SSD or replacing the laptop.
Use the Costco app's warehouse inventory search with item code 1814012, and check nearby warehouses there too. The app can show the $699.97 price even when the floor tag still says $849, and some stores ring it up at checkout despite the shelf marker being outdated.
Yes, it is YMMV: some warehouses showed $699.97, while others were marked $849 or had no stock. Availability also changed quickly, with some stores having only a few units or selling out the same day.
At $700, the M4 Air is the stronger deal if you can stretch the budget, because it adds 8GB more RAM and a much better chip for about $100-$200 more depending on the comparison. The Neo only wins if your budget is closer to $500 and its 8GB/256GB configuration fully meets your needs.

It is discounted because its last years model, it is still an extremely capably machine.
The Neo is a entry level machine that retails for $600. so its actually a $100 difference (i know it can be purchase at EDU discount for $500).
but as it stands its only $100 difference for the average consumer. for the extra ~16% price increase from the Neo for an extra 8gb ram and a significantly better SOC + other QOL upgrades, I say its a better deal.
But if they want to buy a NEO for $600/$500 go ahead its your money and its just my opinion.
You do you, spend your $ as you please.

I'm just saying, being entirely objective, the current economy is unstable. For the first time in my entire tech career, tech pricing is radically increasing in an unexpected, unpredictable, and aggressive way.
If you need something now, then it might be best to get it now. If you want to wait, sure you can wait. But prices might quadruple before the end of the year. Or not. The market is unstable.

The $700 M4 Airs are being clearanced out due to the release of M5 Airs. This is very typical when a new model is released. Honestly, making this not a bad deal if you have a Cost Corporation near you and have a subscription to shop in their retail store.
Apple has discontinued the base models of the M4 Mac Mini as well as the M5 Macbook Pro, resulting in an effective price increase. There are significant and lengthy backorders for many of the SKUs.
As for TeeVees, I don't know how they factor into the discussion since we're talking about Apple Laptops -- but sure. I'll bite. Most TV manufacturers aren't making a profit on hardware sales -- but a majority of their profits are from built-in adverts and selling user data. Vizio has shown this in their fiscal statements, before their purchase by Walmart.
So yes, prices are indeed going up. if you need something now, I'd suggest getting it sooner than later. Or not, it's your call.

All sold at 2.5x - 3x times the price I paid for them, And all of those items were used.
Most items sold within minutes of listing them for sale, everything sold within 24 hours. Gotta get while the gettin is good.
So yeah, component parts are going up sky high.
It will start to affect the entire market as a whole sooner or later.
I've already upgraded all my gear to last me a few years so i can wait for this potential SH!T storm to pass.
If prices don't rise? We Gucci I only buy cheap anyways. If they do rise? Well I already have what I need.
If prices crash? Time for an upgrade!
