Repost from earlier thread. This is YMMV. I checked my local warehouse yesterday and it was $849. I believe the $xxx.97 designation makes it very location-specific.
I stand corrected. I checked stock at my warehouse via the app and it insisted this was the price and it was low stock. I re-visited my warehouse and it's still marked $849 on the floor, but I took it to checkout and it rang up 699.97. Perhaps the staff hadn't gotten around to updating the information marker on the MacBook table. Definitely worth seeing what the app says about your local stock and price. Thanks OP. Slick.

Is this the best price for a new M4 macbook air?Have others heard rumors that macbook airs will be 120hz in 1-2 generations? Also, there are rumors that macbook pros may be coming with OLED later this year with M6 pro/max series. Possibly including touchscreen! Thoughts from others?
Heard/read about oled and touchscreen

But also remember, the old adage of "waiting if you can" no longer applies with our current economy. In the span of less than a year, we've seen component prices double, triple, or more in some cases.Waiting for something might not be the best move. Especially if it's from a company that does NOT telegraph their upcoming releases until they deem it fit to announce. So "maybe" it has oled, "maybe" it has touchscreen -- or maybe not. There's absolutely, genuinely zero guarantee of anything. Get what you need, when you need it.
I would say if you have the budget and can wait to still wait for more powerful device....the components increased like that and the devices may too.

Great deal! I got one like new from Amazon last November when they had their used sale. I think it was $650 at the time. Fantastic computer and I use it more than I thought I would. Super light and compact but also extremely quick and capable.

I agree, get what you need now that will last and don't worry about the "latest and greatest"

Apple is slowly increasing prices and removing base models for sale (google Mac Mini M4)

The Ram and SSD inflation + shortage was mentioned in Apple's CEO conference call saying its raising the production costs for the future.

I don't see a deflationary period anytime soon (but thats just my own personal prediction).

Apple probably will offer higher Hz refresh rates along with a new design(s), possibly even removable SSD's (EU repairability laws). Nobody outside of Apple knows. They will have to justify the price increase(s) and a few luxury/quality of experience upgrades would be the way to go as a company to continue/increase sales.

I just ordered a M5 15" air to replace my 16" M1 Pro.

To me, the future is a complicated balance. If people don't have enough $ and prices increase too fast, sales slow down therefore discounts/sales will be steep. But if sales continue or increase after price increase(s) = no steep discounts.
I remember the Post 2008 GFC, there were steals and deals everywhere I looked. I didn't have a lot of $ at that time or I would have been snatching up everything cheap in sight. This environment feels eerily similar.
as another current owner of a 16'' M1 Pro, what's the reason to make you switch? isnt the M1 Pro still more capable than the M5? also better screen

If someone was looking to buy the Neo but is able to grab one of these instead at this price, then this is a great opportunity.

I actually miss the portability of my 15" air. I use it everywhere, it really makes a difference while im using it in bed.
The M1 Pro is a better SOC for sure. but I'm not a crazy power user and the M5 is plenty for me. Its the tradeoff I'm willing to accept.
Screen difference isn't as bad TBH. Yes the 120hz is nicer for sure. But its not a crazy deal breaker. I also use my laptop in VERY low-light environment and if its actually pitch black, the 16" oled screen has a bloom haze glow that hurts my eyes. The LCD on the 15" air is actually easier on (my) eyes so its a win-win. It just fits more of my personal preferences.

The size and weight was a big deal. I had a 15" air as my daily laptop since december and just picked up the M1 Pro 16 a few weeks ago. Its a huge difference when you use them daily in your hands carrying it around.
The macbook air 15" is really a huge feat of innovation IMO (the 13" as well but I need a bigger screen)

To each their own. 😎
