This looks like what you'd carry in the trunk to briefly toss a line out in your spare time.

I literally just bought the cheap Walmart brand- Ozark trial fishing rod and reel for ~$13, being delivered in 10 min. Am I better off with these? Only occasionally fish at ponds, bluegills and bass.

I've got three different collapsible rods, the two fiberglass ones are pretty mediocre. Reels are the lowpoint but rods aren't much better. Got a Plusinno carbon fiber at Amazon for a bit more and it's the only one I use regularly. Not great, but good for the price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FVL7...le_66&th=1

The two 1 star reviews are one from a guy who never tightened the spindle and another who though a reel with 6lb test was for catching bigger fish. I'm pretty sure neither need to be around a fishing pole.

I always love and +1 fishing deal posts. Now to answer if this a good combo for the price? Well it depends on what your need is. First of all the reel is going to be pretty much junk. Now this is a telescopic rod intended for travel and sits on the lower end. Will not be sensitive. If you love to fish when you travel then this is not for you. You should get a quality telescopic or five or six pieces travel rod. If you have kids or family members who just want to fish with you while you travel, then absolutely. Cheap enough that you don't care if it breaks. Will it catch fish? Yes it will! If your intended use is pond or dock fishing, then there are cheaper options and grab one of those instead.
