this product is meant for a stove kitchen fire or a battery fire vs a room fire. Fire extinguishers make quite a mess when all you want to do is snuff a flame.

This is meant for a fire that's feeding on oxygen, like a grease fire. A battery fire is self-sustaining so you could use this to slow down some oxidation, but it really won't put it out, there must be additional help.

yes, you're absolutely correct. The best a blanket can do is maybe contain it while you figure something out.

I opened a cheap one of these for a project. It covered everything in fiberglass fibers. I spent an hour pulling fiberglass splinters out of my hands. This is an acceptable risk when the alternative is burning down your house, but not worth it any other time.

That's weird because fiberglass is highly flammable. Ever seen a racecar fire?
Fiberglass itself will not burn but with a hot enough heat source will melt. On a racecar body made out of fiberglass, the epoxy used to join the fiberglass layers will indeed catch on fire. This blanket does not have epoxy to keep it together.

Car on fire therefore car is flammable. Can't argue with that.

Hey, have you seen a concrete structure fire!!! Or an oil tanker fire!!! Concrete and metal are flammable yo.

I bought a cheaper version. It came with pair of gloves but I was wondering where you would put this blanket if you never know where a fire will start... after reading reviews, I guess best place is in the kitchen.

I was going to mention this also. I opened mine to inspect it (its only useful if you are prepared for how it's going to deploy in the case of an emergency) and I probably should have expected it but the fiberglassyness of it was insane, it was basically like grabbing on to a big chunk of pink insulation batting. If youre going to open it, do it with gloves and in an area you can clean up with a shop vac.
For the truly disaster-ready, you might consider storing it with a thick pair of leather gloves ($7 pair from harbor freight would do just fine since you arent going to wear them out i hope) since your ability to keep your hands safe while dealing with a kitchen fire could allow you to do so much quicker and more accurately.

Here is me hopping on to say that none of these fire blankets are UL listed and most fire departments discourage their use. To use them requires approaching and getting over the top of flames. If you have a fire on a pan, just cover it with the lid. If its bigger than the pan, the blanket wont help much and an extinguisher is what you want.

Heck, if metallic aluminum hangs around with iron rust and they get it on..... good luck putting that out.

Went to HD and grabbed a few, the boxes were completely covered in dust/dirt, but worth the price. Thanks OP!
