The printer is fine but unless you need a volume printer, I would stick to cartridge printers since those are easier to maintain IMO. Are you going to be printing a lot?

I wouldn't wish an HP printer on my worst enemy.

Even if your old printer's ink cartridges cost $60+?!? This seems like a great price on ink that will last 5+ years…

Been so turned off HP since they started doing updates to lock out 3rd party ink. Add to that they want you to make an account and keep pushing printing as a service now. I went Canon mega tank with pigment ink and love it. It can even print water resistant and water proof if you get the right paper/labels.

Totally agree. My epson eco tank died almost after 9 yrs and absolutely loved it. Bought another Epson eco tank without blinking. Much better and reliable brand and ink refill super cheap too.

We have the same setup now. After HP pulled that ink subscription scam, we will never buy another HP printer again. Even though they've back off the extreme, we aren't going to reward them with more business.

Is the printer you are talking about similar to this? Thanks.

No, the ecotank is like the smart tank - the workforce uses regular cartridges. You'd want to look up ecotank (printers start with ET- instead of WF-).

ecotank and smart tank and mega tank all use a continuous ink supply system (ciss) instead of traditional cartridges.
The appeal is that the ink tank capacity is significantly higher than cartridges, and cost a lot less to refill.

They're fine printers. But you should just ask yourself if your print volume justifies a tank system.
If you don't print often, the print heads are bound to dry up.

Ecotank printers generally don't have user replaceable print heads. If they go bad, you'd probably need to send it in for repair.

HP smart tanks have user replaceable print heads, but I'll be honest... Dont think I've seen them for purchase anywhere I shop. I haven't really looked though, so not sure...

Megatank from canon also has user replaceable print heads.

They're all about the same. Just get the one with the best print speeds at the lowest initial and refill price.

I only buy older HP printers that are pre 2016 that haven't been ruined by the company that still work flawlessly and use third party ink.

My HP Photosmart 8150 from 2005 is still going strong! Shockingly ink for it is still made by HP, but I always source genuine ink on eBay for half to a fraction of the retail cost. I've found that even 3 years expired ink still will usually work fine. But NO control or dumb subscriptions or even firmware that can be updated to restrict printing. And it prints photos to professional quality using high gloss photo paper.

So you can't use this printer without creating an HP account? Do they push to buy anything, while ink on this printer should last 2-3 years, right?
