Always interested in a good deal, but get to $100 and I'm interested. It's just not good enough yet to replace perfectly functional stack of batteries I've already got at this price

DeWalt is pretty smart, by keeping customers confused on all the different model numbers and variations. Now they are doing it on their batteries:
Lithium-Ion (standard), XR (extended runtime), POWERSTACK (compact pouch cell), and POWERPACK (high-output tabless).
They all are lithium ion!!! Don't buy the hype!
Get a smoking deal, buy it. Don't over pay for some gimmick.

DeWalt is dropping POWERPACK and POWERSTACK branding and all tabless and pouch will only have XR branding.

Agreed I have several variations of batteries only the newer items are interchangeable for my tools. I have the blower, fan, handheld light, and edger/trimmer.

I looked into the difference and found that the Powerstack utilizes a different cell construction. The cells are more rectangular than cylindrical resulting in better cooling and higher current delivery (lower internal resistance?).
They are also supposed to deliver substantualy more cycles. They shine in high load applications.

Home Depot is shipping these next day to me, IMO there are the sweet spot, more compact, higher output, and longer life. Been waiting on these to go on sale again.
