The reel is complete garage.

If you are okay with the price for the rid, go for it but the reel will drive you insane.

I don't see how's this FP deal. These are probably everyday walmart rods that is similar in price. This is even a no name chinese junk that the reel probably will break after your first outing. Reel probably twist your line that you have to untangle it every cast.

EDIT: Look at the reviews, said exactly what I imagined.

Got few suggestions for a budget rods and reels, preferably for salt water for older kids to use? Thank you. Will also take suggestions for fresh water. We seem to be tossing reels out as they rust

Not exactly budget but not pricey either, look into the daiwa BG line of reels. Hasn't rusted on me and I take it out exclusively for salt water fishing. I just do a spray down with the garden hose when I get home. No major maintenance
