Not ideal. It is easier to hold a flat barbell plate against your chest. Many of the strongest people in the world would never do a situp. You can get a way better abdominal workout with squats, deadlifts, of cleans while also getting a workout in most other muscles in the body.

I don't see why not. I get that you'll be bracing your core doing other functional movements but you can still get benefits from doing weighted situps why not both? Plus use the 15 for lateral raises (bracing oblique) or practicing one arm clean/swings
