I have heard mostly negative things about this. Apparently the tines are not high quality and break easily, and they aren't independently powered. One set of tines spin and makes contact with the other set to spin those ones.

Agreed. I think it used to be the thought of what could we safely make in a tool that can save people lots of time and effort. Now it seems the thought process is what else can we make in a cordless tool?

All true, plus the internal gears are plastic and are prone to stripping if pressed. I've been waiting for this to come down to a realistic price for years but can never find it on sale. I have no use for the battery or charger as I already have dozens so the wait continues.

This is the worst tool I've ever purchased from Ryobi. It broke after two uses.
