I've owned this. It sits low and is a pain to get out of. I think you can buy extension from the factory website. The XL wasn't wide enough for anyone's comfort so I returned. They make a 2XL which is wider, but not offered by Costco. Here are the 3 sizes they make.

XL Bunk
79" Long
35" Wide
500 lbs limit

2XL Bunk
85" Long
39.5" Wide
600 lbs limit

Large Bunk
79" Long
28" Wide
500 lbs limit

If you swipe on the pictures from last to first it's like watching a divorce happen.

If you've got gas, better get the bottom bunk.

I have had this for 15 years. Love that's it's a couch. Kids used the bunks when they were small. Gets seldom use how day but we do use it in long car camping trips as a couch. It's excellent quality and very heavy.

I have this. Bought one for the kids initially and just got the XL. Liked it so much that we got a second bunk. Great for car camping, quite heavy though and wouldn't want to move it around a bunch. But if you have a big tent and are staying put, we haven't found a better sleeping setup yet including some of the memory foam inflatable pads. We purchased ours second hand for less though

I never knew they had the capability of turning into a couch!

I bought these years ago to pair with a Springbar / Kodiak walk-in canvas tent and it's one of the best investments I ever made.
They're a little bit of a pain in the neck to assemble but sleep exceptionally comfortable and don't take up much room.

would this be a good thing to keep under a bed for kid's sleepovers? or is it too clunky / uncomfortable?

It is actually great for sleepovers. Very sturdy...The only downside is that it is really heavy.

I have read that people use it for sleepover situations. And also that it's relatively comfortable

I have a pair of these and used them once. Why? Bulky, HEAVY and MUCH more hassle to put together than comparable options. I guess our use case just isn't very strong, but I can't imagine hauling these things anywhere, they're just too damned heavy and take too long to put together.

I've had two sets of these for nearly a decade. They are great for car camping where you don't have to move them too far. As the image shows each bunk has a cloth briefcase that is quite heavy. These bunks allowed my family of six to sleep comfortably in an 8-person tent. They are very durable. The bag is probably going to fail first. They also take ~20 minutes to set up and it's quite noisy. If you are trying to make a quick morning exit from a Cub Scout Campout before everyone wakes up then this will be too loud.
