B&H might look polished online, but people should do their homework before blindly trusting them. The company has faced multiple discrimination lawsuits over the years, including federal cases involving treatment of Hispanic workers, and they've also had hundreds of BBB complaints filed by customers. On top of that, there have been recurring complaints online about customer service, shipping issues, and questionable promo handling. For a company this big, the pattern is hard to ignore. I use cloud models (Claude and GPT for work, Gemini for personal) extensively and plenty of local models (personally) too. While agree the cloud models are better, you can get more than reasonable code with even qwen-14b Q4 for C++ and python. The biggest difference is in how big a codebase the local models can handle. But with 24GB RAM and a 14B Q4 local LLM, you can deal with most personal repos (few 10s of files).

I can't even fathom how many thousands I've spent with them, and not had one issue with them (or if I did have an issue, they resolved it quickly to my benefit).

How is it confusing? It clearly states which processor is in it....M5, M5 Pro, or M5 Max. This one is the M5 (base) chip. You're saving a hefty amount of money by getting a CPU that absolutely destroys most of the M1 and M2 lineups. It's more than enough for most people, and now you can get it with the better screen, thermals (this body has a FAN!), more ports, better audio, etc.

Next someone will be saying "just because it says pro, it's only for use by professionals."

yeah my one experience with them years ago involving a return - long story short, I followed their instructions in accordance w their return policy, & they charged a restocking fee anyway. None of the other major retailers were charging restocking fees by that time.

This is literally perfect for me.
I was about to drop $1400 with the education discount at Apple for the 15" Mac Air with 24GB RAM but I would prefer to pay an extra $100 and get a Macbook Pro.
Unfortunately I have like $1200 on my Apple account from Gift Cards.

usable maybe, but it's gonna have a lot of hallucinations and provide extremely convoluted code for no good reason. i'd rather have claude do a good job in 5 min than hoping a local one bumping into a solution. that being said, I do think local ones are more than enough for simple automation tasks, just that using a MacBook Pro(24GB or 32GB) for this kind of job seems a bit overkill.
