5 calls back to all the previous installments. It will be a more enjoyable experience if you play the previous games. Except for 2 maybe.

5 may a bit cheaper if you're a humble bundle subscriber although it could be cheaper if you already own some of the games on Steam. Humble only has the $4 - 5+ Vergil and $9 - 5+ deluxe +Vergil. I own everything but 5 on Steam so it would be $3.64 for my account.
