Anyone know how much sun it takes to charge? On the verge of getting an ev and I looked into rack mounted solar panels but they said won't get enough to make much difference. My daily commute is 75 miles (plus any additional day trips) and home 120v charge MIGHT replace half that overnight. I figured I may need to plug to a public fast charger every other week. This sounds like a good alternative where I can plug in during the day at work if it captures enough.

Right. Whether or not it will power it is another story

You can. It would probably get you 1 mile a day

The Amazon reviews are mostly for a solar panel that attaches to a ring camera. I will pass

Not worth it. This will get you less then a kW every day even if it's sunny. EVs average around 4 miles per kW- so you might get 3 miles a day when it's sunny, 1-2 miles if it's cloudy, literally nothing if it's a dreary day.

Just install a proper level 2 charger at home. EVs are not worth it if you have to use public charging constantly- it's too expensive. In the winter your car's efficiency will be almost half of what it is now.

Nope. This would barely power a mini fridge.

In for one, the solar panel leaves much to be desired as it's only 80w, but otherwise a good deal.

Assuming 70% efficiency on the solar panel and other losses, it would take between up to 6 hours to fully charge the battery. This will mean you will likely have to reposition the panels (start at an angle and transition to flat) to optimally capture light. If you don't, it may take into the next day as you might only have good sun on the panels 1/2 that time without repositioning.

All in all, off grid recharging sounds amazing for boondocking etc. Solar isn't always included so I consider it a bonus.

Most EV's get about 4 miles per kwh, and their included home slow charges usually give you back about1 KW per hour. So a 75 mi commute is untenable on a home slow charger. If you have the opportunity to get a 2-4kwh charger installed at home you should be in a good spot.

The Aptera is a high efficiency 'solar' car set to debut soon. They claim it can get about 40 miles of range (sans HVAC) daily from sitting in the sun. They do have solar panels on the hood, roof and dash- but this is chiefly because they made the car so incredibly efficient that it gets 8-10 miles per kwh. So the solar charging- is under $1 worth of electricity where I live. Unless you live in an apartment or somewhere u cannot plug in to charge, this is somewhat gimmicky- mostly there to demonstrate the incredibly efficiency of this car.

Hasn't Aptera been trying to get released for a few decades now? I like the solar bit doing a good recharge
