This 13.6 inch MacBook Air stands out as a strong everyday laptop with 24GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD, which makes it especially appealing for students, heavy multitasking, and future proofing. The extra RAM is the main draw here, since it cannot be upgraded later and helps with browser tabs, Xcode or Android Studio, virtual machines, and some light local AI work. Costco also adds protection perks and an extra warranty. The main tradeoff is that the newer M5 alternatives offer faster chip features for only a bit more, while this listing has already sold out in some colors.

Common Questions (5)

  • The M4 24GB is the better pick if you care about memory-heavy work, local AI, VMs, or keeping more browser tabs open because 24GB cannot be upgraded later. The M5 16GB has newer chip features and faster bandwidth, but 16GB can become the limit sooner for multitasking and larger models.

  • 24GB can handle some local models, including roughly 17B parameter models at Q4 for basic work, but the Air is not ideal for sustained local LLM use because heat and throttling become issues. It works better for occasional demos or travel use than for a dedicated AI machine.

  • Yes, the 24GB/512GB configuration is a strong out-of-the-box student setup and should cover everyday tasks for years. It is also described as overkill for average users, so the extra RAM mainly matters if you expect heavier multitasking or future-proofing.

  • No, some color options are already gone, and the listing later appears to have sold out. The deal was also reported as dead and about $50 higher than the prior day.

  • The Costco extra year can add coverage, but AppleCare does not stack as extra years the way older third-party plans sometimes did. AppleCare effectively runs its own 3-year term, so if you want AppleCare, it should be bought with that structure in mind rather than assuming additive coverage.

You are right, you can now, but you want that to be the case in the next 6-7 years with updated and power hungry apps and macOS updates.
Get back to me in 7yrs and let me know how a Neo is still perfectly fine for office work, just like me 5yr old m1 Mac mini is still perfectly fine for local llm use right now.

Neo swaps even on most basic workloads. It should be used only as a single purpose machine / iPad replacement. Not good for multi tasking
I have a Neo, I multitask on it all day just fine. You don't have a Neo and have no idea what you're talking about.

I think this is a good spec for students out of the box. You might find it slightly cheaper but there's a few more protection perks with Costco.

I got a neo and returned it for the reasons above. Be nice, or be quiet.

Me with a m1 air and a m1 mini with 8gb of ram debating if this is fast enough for me or if I should hold out for an m5 lol :/
Ignoring price volatility, it's almost always better to wait if your current system is still getting the job done with decent efficiency.

i recently got a m3 air 15 inch 24gb ram, 512 gb hard disk,22 power cycle for 650 usd, i guess that was a good deal huh

one small isse that one port doest have power flow throught it or something, never really bothered since i dont use it.
anythoughts?
Well, there are only 2 PD ports other than the Mag Safe. One port not delivering Power is indication if it getting fried soon. Better to return it imo

No it's good for multi tasking. And swapping is designed to be utilized..

Both USB-C ports are PD compatible. So, if one of them has stopped delivering power, it means there are corrosion/rust or weakness of circuitry causing PD feature to just not work. If you see some nwe YT videos (where they compare different MBA versions), you would hear them talking about one or both USB-C ports stopped delivering power after 2-3 years. So, not sure if it just is a common issue.

Eventually likely. I'm holding out for just such a deal.

Warren Buffett just sold most of Berkshire's Apple stock, so I expect some price cuts coming to move inventory. Nobody is paying the inflated MSRP prices.
I was too but it looks like both 13" and 15" M4 24 GB configurations are sold out (priced at $1000/1300). I think the 15 was in stock the other day. I thought surely the 15 would be reduced but clearly that didn't happen.
