This Ridgid 15 inch 12 speed floor drill press stands out as a strong value for a name brand shop tool, especially for drilling metal and general DIY work. The lifetime warranty and service network add appeal, and the price drops even further through military discount programs. Assembly is described as straightforward, and the machine can chew through aluminum much faster than a hand drill. The keyless chuck is a sticking point for some, and warranty shipping or delivery handling could be a hassle. A solid floor press if you want more speed and capacity than a handheld drill.

Common Questions (4)

  • At $264.50 it is described as a strong price for a new name-brand floor pedestal drill press, especially compared with older auction prices and higher Harbor Freight alternatives. A military/Xchange purchase can reportedly bring it down to about $238 shipped, with no tax.

  • It comes with a keyless chuck, which some buyers prefer and others dislike on a drill press. Swapping chucks is reportedly not difficult if you want to change it later.

  • The warranty language says service can be handled by prepaid shipment of the complete product to RIDGID in Elyria, Ohio, or through an authorized independent service center. A service-center locator shows multiple nearby centers, so Ohio is not the only option.

  • Assembly is reported to be simpler than expected, and the individual pieces are not too heavy for one person. Once set up and bolted down, it can drill through aluminum much faster than a 1/2-inch hand drill.

Even better deal for vets via the Xchange site $238.05 shipped. I've been wanting a floor model for a long time.

This is a second recent deal where HD is not allowing the military discount to be stacked.
Still a great deal.
You can use the MyExchange site to shop home depot and the military discount gets applied. Brings this drill press down to $238 with no tax.

Best deal I've seen on a name brand floor pedestal drill press in a very long time. I have the similar Porter Cable and it has served me well through years of daily commercial use.

Don't forget to register after purchase for free lifetime parts and service.
How You Can Get Service
To obtain the benefit of this warranty, deliver via prepaid transportation the complete product to RIDGID c/o Emerson Professional Tools, LLC in, Elyria, Ohio, or any RIDGID® AUTHORIZED INDEPENDENT SERVICE CENTER. Pipe wrenches and other hand tools should be returned to the place of purchase.

So you have to ship the "Complete product" to Ohio to get warranty serviced? This thing weighs over 160lbs... shipping this to OH will cost you more than the tool itself lol

This thing just ripped though a chunk of aluminum that usually takes me 20 minutes with a corded 1/2" drill in a minute. I should have done this a long time ago. Assembly was way simpler than I was imagining and the individual pieces weren't too heavy for a single person. I guess it doesn't matter because it looks to be sold out and likely discontinued. Get a drill press if you suck with a hand drill and occasionally do that sort of thing.

Damn the delivery driver! Looks like they just threw it out of their trunk and left it half exposed to weather on my driveway. As soon as I tried to move it the entire package spilled out all over the place. Now they are OOS and I'm SOL. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise after seeing the negative reviews about the belts and pull adjustment being near impossible. There isn't even a return option on the .com site like normal so cannot imagine other shipping experiences that are out there that HD doesn't want to deal with. I'm sure the HD store returns desk is going to be like yeah corporate f'd us again lol...
