This Gourmia 8 quart digital air fryer is best understood as a roomy countertop fryer with a window and light that can handle everyday snacks and small pizzas. It cooks well for the size, and the Costco return policy makes exchanges straightforward if needed. The main drawbacks are a finicky basket and track, slow preheating, and a window that can become hard to use once oily foods splatter. The crisper tray coating and plastic smell also come up, so it feels like a practical pick if you can live with some quirks.

  • People who line the basket with foil or silicone, because liners make cleanup easier and help manage grease.

  • People who want a large-capacity fryer for batch cooking, because the 8-quart basket fits bigger loads.

  • Shoppers who want a fryer they can monitor quickly, because the window lets you check food in seconds without a long oven-style heat loss.

  • Home cooks making small pizzas or cookies, because the basket is deep enough for those foods.

  • People who want a fryer that heats quickly, because it can take a long time to preheat.

  • People who need a basket that slides in smoothly every time, because the grooves can be finicky and the basket can fall off track.

  • Shoppers who want easy long-term cleanup, because the crisper tray coating can flake and become hard to clean.

  • Cooks who make oily or splattering foods, because the window can become useless once grease coats it.

Does this have that atrocious chemically plastic smell the first ~10 times you use it? Every other air fryer I have had has had this issue.
this one for sure has it as did my ninja dual basket. both go away after a while. i think it just the norm for air fryers made with plastic chassis or whatever. there are methods to reduce the smell on youtube (vinegar/lemon, water, etc...), but i can't comment on whether they're effective or not.

Have been using this for over a year now, bought last time it was this price. I like ninja products better - the controls are less intuitive, it takes much much longer to preheat (if you care about that) and can be finicky to close the basket if you miss the small grooves for the edge lips.

I've had this one for about a year now. Its as good as any airfryer, so this is a really good price for the size. Be warned though, if you airfry anything that sizzles or otherwise gives off oil, eventually that window will become completely useless.

Good info.
I don't know why they bother with a window. Opening to check is fast. It's not like opening your oven, where you lose several minutes for the heat to reach its set level again.

In my opinion, the light won't always give you a true idea of the food's doneness anyway. But on paper, it's a good idea, while it lasts...

Agree. This is the silicone liner I use that has raised nubs. Plus I use a paper liner underneath it to capture most of the fat/grease that seeps through the small holes.

Yes! Silicon liner. I went the basket route with this same air fryer and its been great. Just need to clean the basket liner. And it has grooves to raise the food. HOWEVER, it will cover up the (gimmicky) window. https://a.co/d/0d6Q07tN

You know what. You're absolutely right about the finicky grooves for inserting the basket. The other thing I'd change about it is the bottom of the basket being completely flat when placed on a table. Regardless, the positives outweigh the negatives for me.

I've always used a flat silicone liner, with raised nubs to keep the food away from the grease. Over time does your window remain easy to see through?

Unfortunately, no. Since its basket style, the basket is tall enough to cover the window. But as a previous user said, just pull out the receptacle to check out the status of your food. It only takes 2 seconds.

I have a Ninja and bought this one for downstairs about a year ago. It's OK. The back handle attachment for the cord refuses to attach. The mesh insert that claims to double your space does not work well. If I try and use it for two items, I have to do the bottom tray of food by itself. So to me, doing so is fruitless. I don't cook any chicken, burgers or anything that is oily and will splatter in either air fryer and tend to line stuff with aluminum pans, foil and liners. The drawer to the Gourmia will tilt when pulled out i.e. not stay intact flat which is annoying. It feels cheaply made in comparison to my Ninja. I agree pre-heating takes a long time. I so love my Ninja, it works so much better.
